How can we keep our school beautiful? Encourage children to brainstorm ways they can take care of the School. Record ideas onto chart paper.

  1. Activity 1: For teacher
  • Explore your pupils by taking a "nature" walk. (If you live in an urban area, you might want to take a walk to the park, or a walk on your sidewalk in school).
  • Stop every so often and ask children to be very still. Encourage them to use their senses. What do they hear? Smell? See? Feel? Discuss.
  • Ask: Ngin i nailay nu? nakineg nu? nabaw nu? nanggiginawa nu?
  • As you take your walk, talk about what makes the school beautiful, or not so beautiful (for example, litter). Record their responses in an observation log)

  • Ask pupils to read the sentences on what they can do and what they can’t do. Form dyads. Tell pupils to ask more questions on what children can do and can’t do for making their school beautiful.   2. Let them do the action as you give the following directions:

  • Speaking:
  1. Write directions on a strip of paper.
  2. Ask pupil to come in front and get a strip of paper.
  3. Say: Angay ka sia sa kasangulan ka kua ka sia sa kaletas.
  4. Let him/her read the direction silently and then read it aloud for the pupils to follow
  5. Say: Batia ka ngin I nakasulat san sa kaletas ka ingguay-guay nengka.

(example: Get the book on the table,Give it to your seatmate, Come in front, jump three times, etc.)

  1. Encourage the pupils to give their own directions.
  2. Say: Enggay ka sa leka a kasuguan.
  3. Role-play : Pupil 1 – give directions. (Enggay ka sa kasuguan.)
  4. Pupil 2 – follow the directions. (Unut ka kanu kasuguan.)
  5. Give new directions and call on another pupil. (this is an activity for pupil-to-pupil interaction.)
  6. Practice reading: Short story.
