Responsible for:Moseley Bog visitors and volunteers, WT trainees, sub-contractors

Purpose of post:Delivery of the Moseley Bog Extending Accessproject plan. This post will have responsibility for undertaking works on the site relating to access improvements, habitat creation and interpretation.

Key tasks:

Technical duties

  • Recruit individuals and groups of volunteers (including corporate groups) to undertake habitatcreation and access infrastructure projects within the eastern section of the reserve on a regular basis.
  • Work in collaboration with other Wildlife Trust staff members and contractors to build and install infrastructure items such as fencing, paths and entrance gates.
  • Work with and liaise with other Wildlife Trust staff, trainees and volunteers on habitat management and community engagement activities across the wider Moseley Bog & Joy’s Wood Nature Reserve.
  • Support and work closely with the Friends of Moseley Bog & Joy’s Wood Nature Reserve.
  • Oversee the work of sub-contractors, volunteers and others carrying out works on the site.
  • Being a visible, approachable point of contact for visitors.
  • Recording volunteer numbers and activity.

Administrative duties

  • Keeping records of work done and completing and submitting progress reports and financial claims.
  • Risk assessment and fulfilment of health and safety requirements.
  • Training of trainees, volunteers and other persons in conservation management and safe working practices.

Other tasks:

  • Work closely with the Conservation Projects Team and other Wildlife Trust staff in the planning and delivery of all management works and public involvement activities.
  • Delivery of volunteer and public engagement activities focussed around conservation, local heritage and other relevant themes.
  • To represent the project at an appropriate level from time to time as required.

Other items:

  • The post is part-time 15 hours per week over 2 days.
  • Out of hours may be required.
  • A minimum of one regular weekend volunteer activityday per month will be required.
  • Other weekend working will be required from time to time.
  • The post is fixed-term from date of appointment to April 2015.
  • This post involves regular work with young people and will require a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  • The post is subject to a probationary period, to be reviewed after 3 months and 6 months.
  • The post holder will abide by the Trust’s equal opportunities and health and safety policies.
  • This post is based at Moseley Bog & Joy’s Wood Nature Reserve and the Wildlife Trust’s headquarters in Edgbaston, Birmingham, but may involve travel elsewhere in Birmingham and the Black Country.
  • Full driving licence and access to own vehicle required.
  • This post requires a person in general good health and fitness.
