Minutes February 15, 2013

The meeting was called to order by Commander Holtz at 8:15pm in the prescribed manner at Denville Memorial American Legion Post #390 hosting.

Adjutant Chuck Jandik took the roll call of officers. The following officers were present: Holtz, Mc Corry, Kramer,Jandik, Finn, Cicatelli and Dolan. Absent:Burroughs and Reuter.Excused: Sachs.

Motion was madeby Fred Finn and second to accept the minutesas email and mailed. Motion was carried.

DEC Fred Finn stated that there was a guest. Department Vice Commander Roger Gengaro. DVC Gengaro thanked the county for the invitation. He stated that membership is the life blood of the Legion. Last year we lost 3000+ members. It is very difficult to make that up. We need to knock on doors instead of sitting behind a computer hoping for members. We need 92% by the Legion Birthday which is 3/15. Morris is at 87.77%. DVC Gengaro also spoke on the Commander’s Project. The “Gene Machine” buses for Vineland and the vans for Veteran’s Haven North and South. He needs approximately $125k to make this project a success. If your Post has not donated he will have an official visit here on 3/15.

Chaplain Bob Dolan stated that he has contacted Greystone several times since November regarding having some sort of party there for the veterans. He stated that his phone calls have been answered but no date or commitment has been given. He stated that he will keep trying.

Past County Commander Bill DeGrosky is in the hospital and recently had surgery for lung cancer. There is a card being passed around tonight. Please sign it. He is hoping to be home recuperating soon.

Finance Report: Beginning Balance of 1/1/2013 - $1507.3632 Receipts -$3043.50 Disbursements $345.00 Balance on hand 1/31/2013 $4205.34.Savings Balance $3333.26 Rehab Balance $525.18Scholarship Fund $13217.00 Commander’s Project $5070.00. Report has been filed for audit.

Committee Reports:

Americanism: Chairman Will Kramer stated that he has been contacted by 2 Posts regarding the Coloring Contest. He will put together a judging committee since they will need to be sent prior to our next county meeting. He also has an entry for Rescue Person of the Year.

County Convention: Chairman Jim Conroy stated that the County Convention will be held on 5/11 at Post #450 in Pequannock. He would like to hear from the Posts in the County of all the good things that they do for our Veterans, Community and Children & Youth. Award Chairman please invite your recipients and their parents to attend. Registration will be at 9:00am and Convention will begin at 10:00am. Post 451 will invite the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to attend.

Oratorical: Cliff Williams stated that the County Contest winner is NebittJendel. He will compete in the District 2 competition.

Membership: County Membership Chairman Mike Mc Corry gave the individual Post totals. Morris is at 3166 for 87.774%. They are in 6thplace. It is getting hard for us to get new members. Keep trying even though it is difficult.

Legion Baseball: Bob Briant stated that the District 1 Senior Tournament will be held in Parsippany from July 21-26. All Coaches and Volunteers must have a background check. No team will be allowed to register if background checks are not complete. The Junior Tournament will be held in Virginia.

Chaplain Bob Dolan performed the Ten o’clock Ritual. The following Comrades were entered into Post Everlasting:Joseph E. Barry and John T. Kelchan (59, John Coats, Thomas De Basse, Robert Dunn, Nicholas Grizzle (175) Past County Commander, Thomas Hanson, George S. Huffert (391), Robert Noncarrow, Frank N. Osborn, Arthur Runne (249), Richard Zitzmann and Brian Whitney (450). May they Rest In Peace.

Correspondence: Resignation of County Master At Arms James Reuter was read.

Old Business: Reminder the official visit to the County Auxiliary is on Wednesday, February 18th here in Denville at 7:30pm. Class A dress is required. This is for all the officers.

New Business:

Motion was made by Bob Dolan and second to take a full page ad for Commander O’Grady’s Testimonial for a cost of $30.00. Motion was carried.

Good of the Legion:

Chester Post #342 will hold a Pancake Breakfast on 2/24

Parippanong Post #249 will have a St. Pat’s Party on 3/9 and a Fish N’ Chips Dinner on 3/31

Lincoln Park Unit 279 will have St. Pat’s Party on 3/16. Cost is $20.00 per person.

At the State Commander’s visit there will be a meat and meatless selection for those that observe the holiday of Lent.

Unit 43 will be having a Corned Beef Dinner on 3/10 from 1-5pm

It will be determined at the next County Meeting if the April Meeting will need to be changed due to the amount of people attending Legion College.

The next meeting will be held on March 15, 2013 at Post #344 in Rockaway Township. This is the official visit of State Commander Gene O’Grady. Class A dress is required for all officers.

There being no further business to come before this meeting the meeting was adjourned in the prescribed manner by Commander Bob Holtz at 9:18pm.
