INVESTIGATION, INTERROGATION & ARREST:

During investigation of the case, wife of the deceased M. Rajni was subjected to sustained interrogation who finally broke down and confessed having murdered her husband with the help of her paramour Murgan and a friend of him namely Manish. She stated that her husband K. Mahesh was an Assisstant grade officer at IGNOU and her father also work in IGNOU as a 4th class employee. Her husband was an alcohol addict and used to have driking sessions with her father also. They became friendly and though he was much older than her, her father got her married with him as he was on a good post and getting good salary. But her husband did not stop drinking despite all efforts made by her. He used to misbehave with her & beat her under the influence of liquor. In the meantime she also started working as an Attendant in IGNOU on temporary basis. There she came in touch with one P. Jyothi Murgan around 6 months back. He also belonged to Tamil Nadu. They became friends. Her husband used to misbehave with her in the office also, therefore, Murgan started developing sympathy for her and their friendship slowly turned into love. They both wanted to marry but her husband was a wall in between. Therefore they planned to kill him. Murgan shared his intention with his school time friend S. Manish. Murgan and M. Rajni asked Manish to arrange poision but he could not arrange the same. Around 10 days ago she boiled a lizard (Chhipkali) and prepared coffee from that water and gave that to her husband. Her husband slept for a few hours but wake up again. She told these facts to Murgan and Manish. Thereafter they planned to come to her husband’s house on the pretext of getting temporary job in IGNOU as Murgan was removed from his temporary job after the allegation of theft. They planned that they will make him drunk excess liquor and will kill him thereafter. As per their plan, on 19.12.10 when M. Rajni and her husband were present at their home at around 4.30 pm both Murgan and Manish also reached there. They had bought a half bottle of whisky with them. K. Mahesh already had a bottle of country made liquor for him. They requested K. Mahesh to arrange temporary job for them at IGNOU and started having drinking session with him. When K. Mahesh started sinking down on the mattress lying on floor of the room due to excess alcohol Murgan and Manish picked up a “Chunni” of M. Rajni lying on the bed and rolled it on the neck of K. Mahesh and tightened that. As the grip was tightened K.Mahesh started moving his legs. At this M. Rajni caught hold of his legs. After this Murgan by putting his hand on the nose of the deceased and M. Rajni by holding the hands nerve of the deceased tried to ascertain that he is dead. But since they were not sure Murgan picked up a “NAADA” lying nearby on the sewing machine and tightened that on the neck of K. Mahesh and Manish picked up a pillow and pressed his face with that. After they got sure of his death, Manish picked up his empty Half of the whisky, the pillow with which he pressed the face of the deceased as it was stained with the liquid that came out of the deceased’s mouth, and the “NAADA” that was used by Murgan to again tighten the neck of the deceased and put them in a plastic bag. M. Rajni took the utensils used by Murgan and Manish to the kitchen and washed them. She arranged the room and Murgan and Manish left from there after taking that plastic bag. M. Rajni with the help of her “Chunni” managed to close the door from inside from a window besides that door so as to give the death a natural look and to misguide the investigation. Next day she came back and pretended as if her husband is sleeping inside after bolting the door from inside and is not opening the door. They had thought that people will think that her husband had died due to excessive alcohol intake and that she will get a permanent job in his place and they will also get a lot of money on his death and some arrears which he was supposed to get from his office and she would also be able to marry Murgan. Accordingly, accused M.Rajni was arrested from her house at Maidan Garhi on 25.12.2010 and at her instance both remaining accused Murgan and Manish were also arrested from Sewa Nagar area.
