SAFETY AND SECURITY

Visitor Sign-In

When visiting the school, please report to the office, sign in and obtain a visitor’s pass every time you visit the school. Your cooperation with this district requirement is appreciated as we work to ensure the safety of our students. In an effort to facilitate your visit, please tell the secretary the reason for your visit.

Dismissal Change of Plans

Should the end of day dismissal plans change for your child, please notify the school office and your student’s teacher. For example, if your student typically rides the bus, parents/guardians must notify the school if their child is not going to ride the bus home on a particular day. If the school is not notified, we will send your child home on the bus, as per their dismissal plan.

Early pick-ups

If you are picking up your student early from school for appointments, etc., please come to the office and we will have your student meet you in the office.

Schedule Visits/Meetings

Office staff are always happy to answer any of your questions but if you need to meet with a teacher or other faculty member, please be sure to make an appointment.

VOLUNTEERS/CLEARANCES

Parents/guardians are encouraged to take advantage of volunteer opportunities at school. In fact, research shows a strong correlation between parent involvement and student success in school. On July 16, 2015 the Carlisle Area School District Board of Directors approved a new Volunteer Policy #916. This new policy is in accordance with recent changes in the Child Protective Services law. Current volunteerswill need to complete the FBI Fingerprinting Clearance (Act 114) or complete the Volunteer Verification certifying that you have resided in PA. for the last ten (10) years.

New Volunteers – Please review the application/check list. All new volunteers will need to complete all requirements prior to any volunteer activity in a school or on a field trip. It is important to understand who is a volunteer. The language in the law regarding this requirement has recently changed. Please go to the following link for detailed guidance regarding volunteers and instructions for obtaining clearances:

All clearances will be accepted up to one (1) year from the date of verification. The district requires that all clearances be turned in at least one week prior to any volunteer activity.

Please note that volunteers must renew clearances at least every five years to remain eligible as a volunteer. Volunteer clearances are “portable” provided they are not out of date.

REMINDER

Party Invitations: As per the Elementary Student Discipline Code of Conduct and Handbook: “Many hurt feelings have been encountered when students issue party invitations at school. To prevent this, invitations are NOT allowed to be delivered at school. Please arrange to have invitations distributed outside the school setting”.

OUR EXPECTATIONS

We are committed to academic excellence and success for all students. Over the summer, our staff participated in numerous professional development training sessions aimed at enhancing instruction for our students. In turn, we expect students to:

  • Attend school every day and arrive on time
  • Complete daily classroom assignments and homework
  • Follow school rules
  • Ask an adult for help when needed
  • Demonstrate respect, responsibility, and safe behavior

The Carlisle Area School District is committed to the highest standards of academic and ethical integrity. Respect for self and others is the foundation of educational excellence and expected behavior as visitors enter our buildings and grounds. As such, we cultivate an environment of mutual respect and responsibility. Whether we are students, faculty, parents or members of our community everyone has a right to be in a safe environment, free of disturbance and civil in all aspects of human relations.

Please adhere to these principles as you enter our schools. Volatile, hostile or aggressive actions and words will not be tolerated, and individuals who engage in these activities can be issued citations from our school police officers.

It is our mission to create a safe, secure and nurturing environment for our students.
