MONTHLY MEETING – January 2017

MINUTES OF THE TOWN OF CALUMET FIRE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY MEETING HELD AT THE FIREHOUSE ON January 9TH, 2017.

President Bob Simon called the meeting to order at 7:40pm with 28members present. Minutes of the December monthly meeting were read. Bob Schmitz made a motion to accept the minutes as read, seconded byRob Steffes, motioncarried. Minutes of the December Directors Meeting were read.

Before the membership went into department matters; Mike Immel from Rural Mutual Insurance joined the meeting and went over the department’s insurance policies on vehicles, building and pump house, and personal. He also answered questions from the membership. Mike thanked the department for being a customer and for the good job that the department does for the community.

President’s report by Bob Simon:

Old Business

  • The Fire Department annual meeting will be on January 17, 2017 starting at 8:00pm. Directors are to wear dress whites.
  • Matt Guelig will be looking at the gutters when the weather gets nicer.
  • The wet suits have been fixed and are good to go.
  • The new windows in the garage doors will be done on January 10th.
  • Jason Mueller made a motion to cancel our current e-mail account and create a new one, seconded by Bob Schmitz, motion carried. Jason Freund will be taking care of creating the new e-mail.
  • The board nominated Brian Schussman as Chief, Bob Schmitz as Assistant Chief, and Jaime Brill as Assistant Chief to the Town Board at their last meeting. All three were approved by the Town Board.
  • We will be giving Nettie Jenkins a thank you for all the work she has done this past year with writing grants.

New Business

  • Beer Run will be hosting a meat raffle this Sunday, January 15. The proceeds from the raffle will be coming to the department so if you can attend it would be greatly appreciated.
  • With the FM radio not working in the firehouse, Bob Schmitz made a motion to fix or replace the radio, seconded by Matt Guelig, motion carried.
  • We would like to thank Brian Scheer for donating his time in the past few years to clean the firehouse. Thank you Brian!

Committee Reports:

  • LOSAP – No Report
  • Pork Chop – Nick Brownson joined the committee. Bob Schmitz made a motion to purchase 300 steak knives and another wash tub, seconded by Brian Scheer, motion carried.
  • RIT- No Report
  • EMRS – Mt. Calvary Ambulance brat fry will be on April 23rd. Brian Scheer will be the EMS training officer this year for the EMRs. Heather Heinrich has retired as an EMR. Thank you Heather for your years of service!
  • Dive Team-No Report

Chief’s report by Brian Schussman:

  • Brian welcomed Joel Stevens as a member of the fire department.
  • After looking at truck and portable radios; they were scanning too many channels. Only scan 2-3 channels if possible to help with radio communication.
  • The RIT team will be having training with RIT members from Mt. Calvary and St. Cloud sometime soon.
  • If anyone is interested in joining the recruiting committee, please contact Brian Schmitz.
  • February 7th, Hilbert Fire Department will be hosting a traffic management class.
  • The new department administrative policies are posted on the back board, if anyone would like a personal copy please contact Brian. We will also have the department SOG and SOPs posted after our January officer meeting. Next officer meeting will be on January 30th.
  • Saturday, January 28, we will be having water training with City of Fond du Lac starting at 9:30am.
  • Brian Scheer gave a report on our turn out gear vapor barrier test; a few members’ gear didn’t pass inspection due to being too dirty so please wash your turn out gear when it gets dirty.
  • We will be waxing trucks at new weeks drill starting at 5:30pm. We will also be washing the trucks in the afternoon starting at 1:00pm.
  • Brian thanked everyone who helped make lunch after last week’s Calumet County Chief’s Meeting.
  • At the last FDL County Chief’s Meeting, Brian shared a story from a recent call at Lamartine about an old lady being in a house fire and no one seeing her go in. Please keep an eye out for any civilians near the incident and please get them away as soon as possible. Also at scenes, if you see anyone taking pictures that aren’t a department member please ask them to stop.
  • FDL Dispatch has received our updated MABAS cards and will review them. They should take effect in early February.
  • Brian Schmitz and Arlyn Merten volunteered to update and take care of the wooden member board in the back of the meeting room.
  • Anyone wishing to become an EMR; there will be a course starting on January 24-May 16 from 5:00-9:30pm on Tuesday nights. The class will be held at FVTC in Chilton; anyone who would like to take the class talk to Brian before January 13th.
  • Calumet County will be updating the tower radio system soon.
  • Don Thome has shown interest in helping out when he can at the firehouse.
  • Chin straps have been put on helmets of members who wished to have them. If you wanted one and didn’t receive one please talk to Brian.

Beingno further business Arlyn Merten made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded byMatt Guelig, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:44pm.
