MEET APPAREL / Montana Swimming and the Butte Tarpon Swim Team invites you to participate in the 2014 Montana Swimming Senior Championships.
The meet will be held at the Butte Family YMCA, 2975 Washoe Street, Butte, MT 59701. The elevation of the facility is 5500’. The pool is an eight lane, 25 yard regulation short course pool with 9 non-turbulent lane lines and Kiefer starting platforms. There is a separate warm-up cool down pool that will be available throughout the meet for coach supervised warm-ups.
Directions: Take the Montana Street exit into Butte then turn south onto Montana Street. Continue south (straight) on Montana Street past the Town Pump on the left and the cemeteries on the right. Veer left at the end of the cemeteries onto Hansen Road. Continue south along Hansen Road to the YMCA (copper and gray building on left). You may also drive to the pool from Harrison Avenue. Take the Harrison Avenue (south) exit. From Harrison Avenue, turn west onto Dewey Boulevardand continue past Rowe Road crossing the railroad tracks until reaching Washoe Street. Turn left onto Washoe Street and continue to the YMCA.
Timing will be by an automatic Colorado Timing System with pads at both ends of the pool or three manual times.
The pool is 8 feet deep at the start end and 4 feet deep at the turn end. The competition course has not been certified in accordance with 104.2.2C(4). Montana Masters has certified the pool.

MEET FORMAT
POSITIVE CHECK IN /
  • This is a prelims-finals championship meet.
  • Events set as prelims/finals will be swum with A and B finals.
  • The 1650 free, 1000 free, 500 free, 400 IM and all relays are timed final events.Individual events will be swum as noted on the event list.
  • Please note the timed finals events that will be swum during prelims and the timed finals events that will be swum during finals as listed on the event list.
  • Only currently registered athlete members of Montana Swimming may complete in this meet. Athlete registrations will be verified.
  • The BTST Mining City Classic will be swum betweenprelims and finals of the MT Swimming Senior Championships.
  • This is not a split session meet.
  • Swimmers in the 1650 free, 1000 free, and the 500 free must provide their own timers and counters.
  • The 1650 free will seeded fastest to slowest alternating women's and men's heats and will be swum combined with the BTST Mining City Classic 1650 free.
  • The 1000 free,500 free, 400 IM, and 400 free relay will be seeded and swum fastest to slowest alternating women's and men's heats.
Over the top starts will be used during preliminary competition. In prelims, swimmers in the backstroke and medley relay events should clear the pool immediately upon completion of the race. Swimmers in all other races should remain in the pool motionless next to the near the lane ropes until the next race is started.
Swimmers in both the A and B finals should report to the staging area which is located by the back doors by the timing table to line up, march in and introduced prior to each event and heat.
Relays will be seeded and swum as men's and women's events. Relays have a qualifying entry time that must be proven through the Online Meet Entry (OME) system.
Positive check-in is located at the timing table. Positive check-in for the 1650 free will be by 5:20 pm Friday. The positive check-in for the 500 free is by the end of prelims on Saturday. Positive check-in for the 1000 free is by the start of event 32 Sunday morning.
SAFETY / The Montana Swimming Safety guidelines are in effect for this meet and will be enforced. Each coach is responsible for informing swimmers of the provisions of the safety code before attending the meet.
For circle swimming during warm-ups and cool downs, swimmers must enter the pool using a three point entry. Coaches are advised to closely supervise their swimmers at all times. NO running or horseplay will be tolerated. A safety marshal will be on deck. No diving is allowed from the turn end of the pool. The warm-up pool is available for warm-up and cool down.
RACING STARTS / Any swimmer entered in the meet, unaccompanied by an USA Swimming member coach, must be certified by an USA Swimming member coach as being proficient in performing a racing start or must start each race from within the water. It is the responsibility of the swimmer or the swimmer’s legal guardian to ensure compliance with this requirement. Any swimmers who must start in the water shall be listed in a separate document returned with the entries.
SANCTION & RULES / This meet will be conducted in accordance with the current USA Swimming and Montana Swimming Rules and Regulations, except where rules therein are optional and exceptions are stated.
  • Use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone, is not permitted in changing areas, rest rooms or locker rooms.
  • Deck changing is not appropriate and is absolutely prohibited.Swimmers may change into and out of swim suits in the appropriate men’s, women’s, or family locker rooms. Swimmer may NOT change in the restroom locatedon the deck by the hot tub.
  • No glass containers, tobacco, or alcoholic beverages are allowed in the swimming venue.
  • The USA Swimming Code of Conduct and athlete protection provisions will be enforced.
  • All persons acting in any coaching capacity on deck must be currently registered coach members of USA Swimming.Swimmer, official, and coach registration will be confirmed with Montana Swimming Registration Chairperson prior to the start of the meet.
  • This meet may be covered by the media, including photographs, video, web casting and other forms of obtaining images of athletes participating in the meet. Entry into the meet is acknowledgement and consent to this fact.
  • No area of the building should be considered secure. BTST, MT Swimming, and the Butte YMCA are not responsible for loss or damage of any items.

ELIGIBILITY
RELAYS
ENTRIES / All swimmers must be registered with USA Swimming and Montana Swimming. There is no deck registration. Swimmer, official, and coach registration will be confirmed with Montana Swimming Registration Chairperson prior to the start of the meet.
Swimmers must have achieved a qualifying time standard in each event entered in any course between September 1, 2013, and the entry deadline. The qualifying time standards are the 13-14 "A" TUSS time standard for all events except the 50 back, 50 breast and 50 fly. The qualifying time standards for the 50 back, 50 breast and 50 fly are the 11-12 "AA" TUSS time standard.
All entries must be made through the USA Swimming Online Meet Entry system (OME). Altitude adjusted times will be accepted. No time (NT) entries will not be accepted for any event. Any time that is flagged in OME as not meeting the qualifying time standards will require proof of time for entry. Times must be proven through the SWIMS database. Swimmers with times that are not proven will be scratched from the event.
Only times earned in a USA Swimming sanctioned or approved meet or at a USA Swimming sanctioned time trial or swims requested to be observed under authorization of USA Swimming rules at other meets (MHSA High School State Swimming Championships) can be used to qualify for this state meet. Times earned at a non-sanctioned meet or time trial cannot be used to enter this meet.
Relay times must be entered by team or by aggregate by adding the individual times of the four swimmers involved. Entry times must be proven through SWIMS database and entered through OME. Relays must be entered with names. Relay cards must be completed for each relay at the meet and turned in by the card entry time each time. Swimmers may swim in one relay only per event. Relay swimmers must swim the race in the order the swimmers are listed on the relay entry card. Only one (1) relay from each team per sex will be eligible to score. Teams may enter an unlimited number of qualifying relays per event if so desired. Relay only swimmers may be entered on relay teams.
Each swimmer may compete in a maximum of seven (7) individual events for the meet with a maximum of three (3) individual events per day. Swimmers may compete in one (1) relay on Saturday and no more than two (2) different relays on Sunday (200 medley relay, 200 free relay). There will be no minimum waiting period between events. Please consider this if entering consecutive events. If a swimmer is competing in both the Senior Championships and the BTST Mining City Classic, the swimmer may not exceed the daily individual event limit.

DEADLINES / The meet registrar must receive entries via OME by Thursday, November 6, 2014. Access OME on the home page of the USA Swimming website. Entry fee summary and waiver release form, USA Swimming OME registration form and entry fee payment must be received by Saturday, November 8, 2014. One check per team please.Late entries, if accepted, will require double entry fees.

An email will be sent to the person submitting the entry confirming receipt of the entry within 48 hours of receipt.
Championship scratch procedures will be in effect for this meet.
Preliminary scratch deadline: The scratch deadline is 10 minutes prior to the start of the first preliminary race each day. Scratches shall be reported on the scratch sheet in the officials’/coaches’ room (preferred method until the scratch sheet is moved to the timing table)or on the scratch sheet posted at the timing table.
Preliminary scratch procedures and penalties: Any swimmer who fails to compete in a preliminary heat in which they are entered and have not been correctly scratched (see exceptions for failure to compete), will be barred from all further individual and relay events that day – including any final swims – except if a swimmer has qualified for finals in an event prior to the no show event, the swimmer may compete in that prior event(s) in finals that evening. Additionally the swimmer must report to the meet referee his or her intention to compete in any individual events on succeeding days. A swimmer may also scratch from a preliminary event with a declared false start by reporting to the deck referee prior to the start of the race and declaring his/her intent not to compete. A declared false start will be charged as a false start.
Swimmers who fail to report for a timed final event will be scratched without penalty.
Finals scratch deadline: Swimmers have 30 minutes to declare their intention to scratch after the results are announced for each event. A sheet to declare a swimmer's intention to scratch will be posted at the timing table. Swimmers must finalize their intention to scratch from finals on the posted finals scratch sheet at the timing table by the deadlines below.
All swimmers wishing to scratch from a final for which a preliminary event has been swum must scratch by no later than the start of the first heat of the event 18(200 breaststroke) on Saturday; the start of event 36 (50 free) to scratch from finals. Alternates should be on deck for each final event in case of an undeclared scratch. Alternates will not be penalized for failure to show for the event in the case of an undeclared scratch.
Finals scratch penalties: Any swimmer qualifying for a final race in an individual event that does not properly scratch and fails to compete in that event will be barred from all further individual and relay competition for the remainder of the meet except as noted under the exceptions for failure to compete. Swimmers may not use a declared false start to scratch from finals.
Exceptions for Failure to Compete: No penalty shall apply for failure to scratch or compete in an individual event in preliminaries or finals if the meet referee is notified in the event of quick-onset illness, injury, or circumstances beyond the swimmer’s control. The meet referee will make the final decision.
Individual scoring: 9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Relay scoring: 18-14-12-10-8-6-4-2. Only the top scoring relay team from each club will be eligible for points.
Individual awards: Individual medals will be awarded for 1st through 8th place for A finals andribbons for 9th through 16th place for B finals. (Events swum in preliminaries and finalswill be awarded based on finals times.)Timed final events will be awarded medals for 1st - 8th place and ribbons for 9th - 16th place.
Relays will be awarded medals 1st through 3rd place.

In accordance with USA Swimming guidelines, all athletes and teams shall follow the published USA Swimming and Montana Swimming warm-up procedures. The safety marshal has the authority to ensure all teams, coaches, and swimmers follow all warm-up procedures. Swimmers should enter the competition and warm-up cool down pools using a three point entry for warm-ups.
  • On Friday warm-ups for the 1650 free for both the MT Swimming Senior Championships and the BTST Mining City Classic will begin at 5:15 pm with the event beginning at 6:00 pm.
  • On Saturday and Sunday, preliminary warm-ups will begin at 7:00 a.m.
  • The pool will be open for coach supervised open warm-ups beginning at 6:15 a.m.
  • Finals warm-ups on Saturday and Sunday will begin immediately after the conclusion of the Mining City Classic meet each day and will be open for one hour.
  • There is a separate warm-up cool down pool that will be open throughout the meet for coach supervised warm-ups.
  • Warm-up times are subject to change depending upon the number of entries in this meet. Please check the MT Swimming and Butte Tarpon websites for changes to warm-up times. Meet management reserves the right to change warm-up times according to the number of entries.
  • Warm-up schedules and psych sheets will be e-mailed on Wednesday afternoon, November 12, to teams providing e-mail addresses and posted on the MT Swimming and Butte Tarpons websites.

To the extent possible, teams are asked to provide timers and other certified meet officials. This is a championship meet. All officials must be certified for a minimum of one year in his/her position to be eligible to officiate. An application to apply for an assigned position is included in the meet information.
All officials on deck must be registered and certified with USA Swimming and registrations will be verified by the MT Swimming Registration Chair. Any official’s assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Each team will be assigned lane timing assignments. A signup sheet will be posted at the meet specifying lane assignments.
The officials meeting Friday will begin at 5:30. The officials meeting on Saturday and Sunday will begin 15 minutes after the start of warm-upseach day for prelims and finals.
All coaches on deck must be registered and certified with USA Swimming. Coach registration will be verified with the MT Swimming Registration Chair. There will be a coach meeting Saturday at 6:45 a.m. Other meetings may be held at the meet referee’s discretion. Meet Management requests that at least one coach representative from each team attend all coaches meetings.
All protests and timing questions should be given to the meet referee.
The hospitality room is located off the main lobby and is open to all coaches and officials. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be served.
The Butte Tarpons will operate a concession stand offering great nutritious food, snacks, and drinks throughout the meet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The Tarpons will also operate a swim shop with a variety of swim wear, caps, goggles, toys, and swim supplies for everyone.

There will be a combined MT Swimming Senior Championship and BTST Mining City Classic program for sale. Spectators who buy a program will also receive a free finals heat sheet for the senior meet.
Spectators may be seated in the spectator areas on the bleachers on the pool deck, on the balcony above the start end of the pool, and on the bleachers along the windows in the upstairs workout room. No spectators will be allowed along the west wall in the coach seating area. In the coach seating area only meet management, officials, and coaches may be in this area except that athletes may talk briefly with their coaches and then leave the area. Parents, please do not be in the area behind the blocks unless you are timing.
