Course Description:( The Welding course offers practical skills, hands on training, and welding. With theory and practice in oxy-fuel welding and cutting, plasma arc cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, and tungsten inert gas welding,

Prerequisites:

Industrial Arts, Technical math, Science

Goals/Objectives:

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Weld safely in shop and in the field

Work safely

Identify ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Weld using ox-/fuel, electric and inert gas methods

Determine welding power sources, uses and limitations

Inspect welding jobs using visual, destructive, and non-destructive testing methods

Construct projects or weldments from sketches, drawings, or verbal communication

Choose proper welding process, procedure, supplies, etc. based on cost limits

Perform weld qualification in accordance with specifications of AWS, ASTM, and ASME codes

Unlimited plate test any position (1,2,3,4,)

Pipe Certification test (6G)

Format and Expectations:

Students are to perform as if they are working in the welding field. Attendance, dress, safety, quality of work and performance will be used in evaluation.

The acronyms stand for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) using coated electrodes, and submerged arc welding (SAW), which uses fluxes for the protection of the arc and the molten metal.

The acronyms stand for tungsten inert gas (TIG,GTAW) welding and metal inert gas (MIG, GMAW) welding. These processes can be manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic processes e.g orbital welding using the TIG process is fully automatic.

Welding Principles and Applications 6th Edition ( Welding P/I) Is the teaching guide used in Welding shop.
