JOB SPECIFICATION

Main Purpose of the Post

To develop and co-ordinate the PLATFORM centre for the arts, working with young people throughout Monmouthshire, delivering drama, film, technical, dance and music elements. To work in partnership with all youth provisions, schools, other departments within Monmouthshire County Council, outside agencies, the voluntary sector and communities to promote and implement the project.

Duties

  1. To promote the aims, objectives and standards of the project within the youth work framework.
  1. To encourage and support young people in gaining new skills, knowledge, experiences and accredited qualifications through the arts.
  1. To manage and supervise the project team
  1. Write develop and deliver workshops within the PLATFORM project.
  1. Identify and apply for suitable funding sources to support and develop the project.
  1. To represent the Youth Service in appropriate forums and partnership meetings.
  1. To ensure that the project is monitored and evaluated within the Youth Work Curriculum Framework and Ten Entitlements for Young People. To provide progress reports on the project to the Youth and Community Manager.
  1. To provide an administrative framework which will enable the project to function and ensure its continuing sustainability.
  1. To proactively seek and undertake CPD within the structure provided by Monmouthshire Youth Service.
  1. At all times remain approachable to the young people, supporting them where necessary and appropriate.
  1. To ensure that the activities on offer reflect the quality of opportunity and the needs of the young people.
  1. To build and maintain a portfolio recording your work practice and to use the Monmouthshire Authority’s approved model when planning activities.
  1. To be flexible in approach, delivery and working hours.
  1. To abide by the principles and practice of equality of opportunity as laid down in the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  1. To ensure all activities are carried out in line with the Council’s Health and Safety Policy and where necessary Risk Assessments are undertaken.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Qualifications and Experience

  1. BA Degree qualification (or equivalent) in the arts
  1. Minimum of 2 years experience of working with young people, especially those in the 11-17 age groups through the arts.
  1. Experience, knowledge and skills in delivering drama, film, technical, dance and music elements.
  1. Experience of working with other agencies.
  1. Clean driving licence and use of a car.
  1. Experience of managing and using an effective administrative framework.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  1. Ability to co-ordinate a project with diverse elements.
  1. Ability to produce production schedules for film and live performance
  1. directing and production skills
  1. knowledge of Mac and PC fluency
  1. basic editing ability using final cut pro express and pro
  1. Experience and knowledge with digital film cameras, tripods, steady cam (preferable) an understanding of location sound and radio mics.
  1. understanding of rigging lights and sound PA
  1. Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a staff team.
  1. Ability to effectively maintain monitoring and evaluation records.
  1. Commitment to delivering an efficient and effective service where the involvement of the young people should be paramount.
  1. To be trustworthy and act with integrity at all times.
