Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator
Background:
Sport Waitakere (SW) was developed to help create and maintain a healthy, physically active community in Waitakere. It was registered as a Charitable Trust in 1991 and is a Regional Sports Trusts (RSTs). Regional Sports Trusts engage with local communities and respond to their specific sport and physical recreation needs. To this end, Sport Waitakere aims to be the recognised hub for sport and physical recreation information and expertise in West Auckland.
We align with the strategic outcomes of Aktive (Auckland Sport and Recreation) and as such provide a means to reach local communities by offering a local presence and a distribution network for information and programme delivery. We currently provide a wide range of services to sport and physical recreation providers via projects, and events targeted at certain community groups and sectors.

Healthy Families NZ is an initiative that aims to improve people’s health where they live, learn, work and play in order to prevent chronic disease. There are ten Healthy Families NZcommunities across New Zealand.In each location, a government-funded Lead Provider is responsible for bringing together a partnership of key organisations in the community, and establishing a dedicated health promotion workforce. Sport Waitakere is the lead provider for Healthy Families Waitakere. The health promotion workforce will work across schools, early childhood education centres, workplaces, marae, sports clubs, and other key community settings to enable sustainable healthy change.
Healthy Families Waitakere works closely with a wide prevention network to support communities to lead prevention efforts and build community leadership so that people eat well, are physically active, be smokefree and only drink alcohol in moderation.
We work alongside communities and bring local leaders and champions together to think differently about the causes of poor health. We work with community to create healthy change and embed positive health behaviors’ in early childhood education, schools, workplaces, food outlets, sports clubs, marae, places of worship and other key settings.
Primary role:
To lead the development and implementation of the local evaluation plan for Healthy Families Waitakere including coordination of evaluation activities for Sport Waitakere.
The Monitoring & Evaluation Coordinator will be required to guide the implementation of a comprehensive M&E System in collaboration with the Healthy Families Waitakere and Sport Waitakere management teams; ensuring timely and relevant reporting is delivered to all stakeholders.
Location:
The position is currently based at Sport Waitakere located on the grounds of Waitemata Rugby Football Club 96 Swanson Road,Henderson.

Key Result Areas:
This position is responsible for the following key result areas and tasks:
Lead the development and implementation of the Healthy Families Waitakerelocal evaluation plan;
- Establish an evaluation support network across the prevention partnership group
- Coordinate local evaluation priorities and methods of data collection
- Coordinate the use of developmental evaluation and systems tools
- Produce evaluation reports/impact stories and other documentation that demonstrate impact and informs programme design and decision making
- Work closely and align with Massey University around the national evaluation of Healthy Families NZ
Develop and implement a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system;
- Oversee the data collection, insights gathering and data analysis of Healthy Families Waitakere and Sport Waitakere work
- Liaise and align with other major evaluation projects of Sport Waitakere to maximize evaluation
- Put in place systems and mechanisms for collecting data to monitor the development of defined indicators under the comprehensive reporting framework
- Oversee all Final Evaluation Report (FER) actions and ensure templates are appropriately used
Provide leadership across the organisation to develop evaluation capacity and capability
- Contribute to the development of documents that showcase the impact being made by Healthy Families Waitakere / Sport Waitakere
- Build capability across the Healthy Families Waitakere and wider Sport Waitakere team

Knowledge and Skills
- Evaluation approaches:Understanding and experience of a variety of evaluation approaches such as system thinking, theory driven and valuing
- Understanding of M&E systems for projects in resource constrained settings
- Demonstrated practical experience in research or evaluation design, conduct, and management
- Demonstrated ability to breakdown and communicate complex concepts simply with a range of stakeholders in multi-cultural settings
- Demonstrated ability to use Excel for data management and analysis.
- Responsiveness to Māori: Demonstrates an understanding and awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi and tangata whenua as the indigenous people of New Zealand. Understands the role of Healthy Families NZ and the wider health sector in reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes for Māori

Qualifications and experience
- Graduate or postgraduate degree in evaluation
- An understanding of the sport, recreation and/or health sectors
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of health promotion and obesity and disease prevention
- Experience in community engagement and development
- Demonstrates an understanding and awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi
- Experience with programmedevelopment and implementation.
- Full current driver’s license
- Computer Literate
