Monday Project Read—Unit 17 Lesson 1: Final consonant blends: -st, -nt, -mp, -sk, -sp, -nd

Teacher will display and class will review the final consonant blends learned thus far by skywriting each 3 times each: -st, -nt, -sk, -sp.

Teacher will display final consonant blend –nd and ask students to say it with me: “dash, n, d, /nd/.” Students will skywrite –nd 3 times, providing spelling and sound.

Teacher will tell students that you hear –nd in the word hand. Class will use finger blending and tap and sweep to read the word hand.

Teacher will provide the following sentence for word meaning: Hand the basket to Beth.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-21 under the document camera. Students will use finger blending and tap and sweep to practice reading –nd words on the sheet. Vocabulary of the words will be discussed as needed. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Ed’s Brass Band” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will also be sent home for reading homework.

Dictation: Students will head a piece of notebook paper with Dictation at the top, name and date underneath. Teacher will dictate the following sentence. Students will repeat. Students will finger blend as needed as they write the following sentence. After work is done, class will discuss, check, and correct any work missed on this activity.

Teacher will place the story, “Ed’s Brass Band” under the document camera. Students will practice rereading and discussing the story. Oral reading check will be done. Teacher will leave the story up while students complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will take up the quizzes and students will use the story to discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.

Teacher will display ending consonant blend –mp and ask students to say it with me: “dash, m, p, /mp/.” Students will skywrite –mp 3 times.

Teacher will tell students that you hear and see –mp in the word jump. Students will practice reading the word using finger blending and tap and sweep.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-23 under the document camera. Students will practice reading –mp words using finger blending and tap and sweep. Vocabulary of the words will be discussed as needed. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Class will review final consonant blends by skywriting each of the above listed blends 3 times each.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-21 under the document camera. Students will practice rereading –nd words on the sheet, using finger blending and tap and sweep as needed.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-23 under the document camera. Students will practice rereading –mp words using finger blending and tap and sweep. Vocabulary of the words will be discussed as needed.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-25 under the document camera. Students will practice rereading and discussing sentences containing –mp words.

Teacher will place the story, “Song of a Swamp” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. Oral reading check will be done. Teacher will display red word two and worksheet 17-29 under the document camera. Teacher will draw red boxes around red words in the sentence and ask students why are there red boxes around some of the words in the sentence? Red words. Words that are not spelled like they sound.

Students will read the sentence to see if they can predict the word two.

Teacher will ask students to try this sentence: Two plus two is four.

Class will arm tap and sweep the word two 5 times.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-31 under the document camera. Students will take turns locating red words in the sentences and drawing red boxes around those words. Then students will practice reading sentences.

Teacher will place the story, “Two” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will display red word do and worksheet 17-33 under the document camera.

Teacher will place a red box around the word do in the sentences on the sheet and ask students to predict the word. Class will reread the sentences on this sheet.

Class will arm tap and sweep the word do 5 times.

Teacher will place the story, “You and I” under the document camera. Class will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Dictation: Students will head a piece of notebook paper with Dictation at the top, name and date underneath. Teacher will dictate each of the following sentences separately to students. Students will repeat each sentence. Students will write the following sentences, using finger blending or tap and sweep to help them write each sentence correctly. After work on this Dictation activity, students will discuss, check, and correct their work on this activity.

Thursday Project Read---9:00-9:45--Class has Lexia Reading in computer lab across the hall from our classroom.
