Description:If you enjoyed the Act Now students performing A Hard Knock Life in last year’s Variety Show, then this year’s productions are sure to delight! Professional actress and teaching artist, Leigh Brooks, is offering TWO performance-based classes this Spring! Each exciting course is designed to not only teach students basic skills in voice, acting, and dance, but will culminate in an unveiling of their talent and hard work in a live performance at the 2016 Weller Variety Show. Previous experience in an acting class or on stage is not a prerequisite to this course, however, students should be confident, read well, and be ready and able to play and work with others in a script-heavy, focused environment.
Under the Sea- Journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends inthis colorful toe-tapping and fin-flapping musical number from Disney's Broadway production of The Little Mermaid.

Pottery Around The World: Travel Through Ceramics / K-5 / Jimmy Potters / 12-25 / $245/10 weeks (includes materials) / Monday
Description:Jimmy Potters Workshop is an exciting and unique ceramic after school program designed to provide children with the experience of an actual professional pottery studio in a mobile setting. During each weekly program, the students will learn and gain new knowledge about cultures around the world while creating beautiful projects inspired by that country. From Morocco to Japan, students will experience different cultures through clay building & pottery painting. Children will travel the world one masterpiece at a time. The projects are fun and creative and will be taught by our accomplished artist/teachers. No prior ceramics or clay experience is required. More challenging work will be assigned to students with previous experience.

Description: Students learn and develop their ability to draw cartoon imagery, including action, irony and emotional expression of characters. We use stepwise instruction to encourage students to create their own independent versions of our cartoon lessons, with animated characters in humorous settings. Our curriculum is varied and challenging, with new, engaging cartooning lessons every week, and every session. Our goal is to provide students with a fun introduction to cartooning techniques such as exaggeration, caricature and personification, to make playful art of their own.

Description: Do you like to dance? Would you like to learn a new hip hopdance routine to be in the next Wildcat Talent Show? Then this is the class for you! Description: You shoot, you SCORE! No longer just a game for a frozen pond, Floor Hockey is a one size fits all game of speed, coordination, and thrills. This gym class favorite is now available after school. Game Play and skill work to include stick handling, dodging, ball control, and of course shooting will be introduced and practiced from week to week. Learn the different ways to put a shot on goal by incorporating wrist shots, slap shots, snap shots, and the backhand. Slap Shot Floor Hockey just might be the first stop on the road to the Stanley Cup… All aboard!

Greased Lightning-In this energetic number from one of Broadway’s most popular musicals, head greaser, Danny Zuko, and his hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys” show off his car, “Greased Lightning,” to the gum-snapping, skirt-twirling “Pink Ladies.” This class is perfect for boys who want to sing, dance…and look really cool doing it!

Description:Do you want to be challenged in math and compete against other “Mathletes” from across the country and world? Come and join the Steuart Weller Math Team!Our main focus will be on the monthly Math Olympiad Contest. There will also be two teams (4th and 5th) chosen from Steuart Weller to compete in the Loudoun County Math Olympiad Championships that will be held in March of 2016. We will enter other math contests as we learn about them. The prerequisite for this club is that you must love to be challenged with high level math problems.

Description: Using simple to advanced programming on Lego® Mindstorms® and EV3 robots, students build, program, and test their solutions based on real-life robotics technology. Students investigate and study components such as connectors, resistors, capacitors, sensors, switches, integrated circuits and motors using conductive dough and easy to assemble Snapcircuits®. Using these building blocks of electronics, students build various projects such as alarms, flying saucers, an AM radio, light sensitive devices and many more.

Create a portfolio of your own designer originals or use from our designs. Watch one of your designs come to life by designing, sewing** and draping on mannequins. Take home your portfolio, your designed outfit* and matching shoes too! They will be introduced to programming if­then­else statements, for­while loops, and implement their own functions using LUA, a simple scripting language. Looking for a fun way to introduce your child to programming? Why not do it using a game they love! Note: Basic reading skills required. Experience playing Minecraft preferred, but not required. Returning students benefit from NEW exercises and lessons!

Description: After-School Fencing - NEW! Come experience this fun, safe sport that can be enjoyed by kids with all levels of athletic ability. Students will learn to fence using safe equipment (helmet, vest with scoring area, and foil) specifically designed for youth who want to give this Olympic sport a try. Fencing improves coordination, strengthens hand eye coordination as well as physical and mental agility, teaches discipline, and positively affects overall fitness. And it’s FUN!
