Science Sept. 17-21

Monday---Chapter 1 Lesson 3: How Can We Group Animals?

Class will review mammals by rereading and discussing Big Book pg. 70 and reviewing mammal chart on the wall and flipbook in the room on shelf.

Teacher will also help review mammals by going to Promethean Planet website and typing in keyword mammals. There are a couple of good flip charts on 1st grade level there to download on the Promethean board and display/work through.

Teacher will also go to website so that we can choose the interactive game for mammals.

Birds---Class will discuss the group of living animals called birds by reading big book pg. 71 and discussing.

Teacher will also introduce birds by use of Promethean Planet flip charts. Then teacher will ask students to take out a piece of notebook paper and write birds at the top. Looking back at page 71 Big book, class will write 3 characteristics of birds on their paper and illustrate some birds on the paper.

Tuesday---Chapter 1 Lesson 3: How Can We Group Animals?

Class will review birds by rereading and discussing Big Book pg. 70 and by reviewing bird chart on wall and birds page in flipbook on shelf. Teacher will also go to website so that we can choose the interactive game for birds.

Also, on the 2nd page of Promethean Planet when you type in the keyword mammals, it gives you a flipchart for Mammals and Birds both. This will review both classifications of living animals covered so far.

To review living and nonliving things, go to the Harcourt Science website and click on the orange leaf, then choose What Are Living and Nonliving Things? Then choose both of the following activities to complete: Living and Nonliving where students choose a habitat and determine if things in the habitat are living or nonliving. Also, choose the Mixbook-Living and Nonliving Things. This is a short online book on living and nonliving things.

Wednesday---Chapter 1 Lesson 3: How Can We Group Animals?

Reptiles—Teacher will introduce reptiles by displaying big book pg. 72 top only. Class will read and discuss reptiles. Students will also read and observe the reptiles chart on the wall and the reptiles flipchart book page. Teacher will go to the Promethean Planet website and pull up other flipcharts about reptiles for students to build the concept. Teacher will go to the website and choose the interactive game for reptiles for students to complete.

Teacher will ask students to take out a piece of notebook paper and write reptiles at the top. Students will take another look at big book page 71 and reptiles chart on the wall to write down a few characteristics of reptiles. Then students will draw illustrations of some reptiles.

Thursday---Chapter 1 Lesson 3: How Can We Group Animals?

Amphibians---Teacher will introduce amphibians by displaying big book pg. 72 bottom only. Class will read and discuss amphibians. Students will also read and observe the amphibians chart on the wall and the amphibians flipchart book page. Teacher will go to the Promethean Planet website and pull up other flipcharts about amphibians for students to build the concept. Teacher will go to the website and choose the interactive game for amphibians for students to complete.

Teacher will ask students to take out a piece of notebook paper and write amphibians at the top. Students will take another look at big book page 71 and amphibians chart on the wall to write down a few characteristics of amphibians. Then students will draw illustrations of some amphibians.

Friday---There is an assembly program today. While we are waiting to be called in, we may do a game on the Harcourt Science website click on the orange leaf then choose the game called Animal Park. With this game, students will match animal to its parent and choose the correct food for the animal to eat.
