To Prospective LakewoodHigh School Co-Ed Cheer & Poms Squad Members & Parents,
Lakewood High School will be selecting members for the 2018-2019Co-Ed Cheer & Poms Squad during the week of April 23rd.To learn more please come to the informational meeting on April 10th at 5:30 pm in Room B-103.
Tryouts are open to all males and females who will be sophomores, juniors, or seniors during the 2018-2019 school year.
In order to tryout,candidates must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Candidates must also complete and turn-in all the paperwork that will be distributed at the parent meeting, including: the Cheer Application, a Letter of Intent, a squad contract, a completed Lakewood High School Athletic Participation Packet,and the online registration. Go to and click on Spring/Coed Competitive Cheer/Varsity. All paperwork will be due prior to participating in the first clinic so please plan ahead regarding your physical.
Due to the financial obligations associated with being a member of the squad, candidates cannot have any outstanding fines with Jeffco Public Schools.
Parents and candidates must agree to the following:
Financial responsibility for uniforms and other expenses. ALL payments are non-refundable.
A new member of the squad will spend approximately $1320 for uniforms, individual expenses and camp.
A former member of the squad will spend approximately $650 for uniforms, individual expenses and camp.
The initial installment will be $407 for the UCA camp and will be due May 2nd at the uniform fitting and ordering session. (Camp includes lodging, meals & instruction from the UniversalCheerleading Association staff). This payment must be made at this time in order for squad members to attend camp!
Payments for uniforms and individual expenses (New Member = approximately $915,Former Member = approximately $240) will be divided into 3 parts due: June 5th(This payment covers camp clothes & poms), July 10th & August 31st (The last 2 payments are for uniforms from Varsity).
There will be 2 fundraisers to help offset the costs. One in June and one in August.
Attendance at all practices
Attendance at all football games and home boys & girls basketball games
Attendance at other assigned sporting events
Attendance at special performances & activities
All portions of the try-outs will be closed to the public!The coaches will make all final decisions.
Clinics will be held Monday, April 23 – Friday, April27 from 4:15-5:45 p.m. in the Wrestling Gym. The final evaluation will be held on Saturday, April28th beginning @ 1:30 p.m.
Since we are a Cheer and Poms Squad, candidates will be evaluated on cheer skills (males & females) & dance skills (females). Throughout the try-out clinics, all candidates will work on and be evaluated on a series of skills including:
- Attitude- Effort
- Memory & quickness to learn- Showmanship
- Teamwork- Angle precision
- Voice projection- Splits
- Toe touch jump- Additional jumps
- Dance ability - Kick technique
- Stunting ability- Gymnastics ability
For the final try-out evaluation, candidates will:
Perform the dance routine learned during the tryout clinics
Perform one of the cheers learned during the tryout clinics
Perform achant that will be taught during your final evaluation
Answer an interview question that will be asked during individual evaluations
Perform your choice demonstration (i.e. additional cheer, dance, stunt, gymnastics, etc.)
Letter of Intent, grade reports, and teacher ratings will also be a part of the try-out process.
IF A CANDIDATE IS SELECTED FOR THE SQUAD, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT DATES!
- New Squad & Parent Meeting on May 2nd beginning @ 4:45 p.m. in the Lecture Center.
This meeting will include the uniform fitting & ordering. We will also go over fundraising & summer calendars.
- Pre-summer practices will be held on May 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, & 17 from 4:15-6:15 pm.
- Summer practices will be held from 6:30 - 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays-Fridays during the following weeks: June 5-8, June 12-15, June 19-22, June 26-29, July 10-11 (Tuesday-Wednesday), & July 31-August 3.
- Squad Members will be attending the Universal Cheerleading Association Camp at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado from July 13-16, 2018
- Seasonal practices will begin the week of August 6th and will occur in the afternoons (Times TBD). For seasonal practices & events squad members need to be available Mondays-Saturdays
- Fall Season: August 6 – December 8, 2018
- Winter Season: November 5, 2018 – March 15, 2019
