Definition: Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA):

Any physical movement that requires the caloric expenditure of walking or any physical activity that would require more

energy than walking. Examples would be swimming, biking, running, sliding, hopping, skipping, galloping, climbing stairs etc. (incl.curl-ups & push-ups)

Coding Symbols: Y= MVPA

N = No MVPA

- = continuation of behavior from previous interval

Observer Reflections:

  1. Identify for which NASPE Beginning Teacher Standard(s) the results of this assessment can serve as supporting evidence. Defend your choice!
  1. To what extent did you accomplish what you set out to accomplish?
  1. What contributed to or hampered the success of the student(s)?
  1. How well did the content/activities you presented in this lesson align with your students’ current ability level?
  1. What changes will you make for next time for when you teach this content and group again?
  1. What (if/any) events occurred during the lesson that stood out for you? (Like a “critical incident”)

Definitions

Appropriate Motor Engagement (M+): Student is actively and appropriately engaged in subject matter oriented motor tasks, using proper technique according to the teacher’s stated prompts and directions. / Off-Task Behavior (Of): Student is either not engaged in an activity (s)he should be engaged in or is engaged in activity other than the one (s)he should be engaged in.
INappropriate Motor Engageent (M-): Student is actively engaged in subject matter oriented motor tasks, but is not using appropriate techniques according to the teacher’s stated prompts and directions. / On-Task Behavior (On): Student is appropriately engaged in carrying out (an) assigned non-subject matter task(s) (i.e., these are all managerial and organizational tasks, incl. grouping, moving equipment, waiting in line, etc.)
Cognitive ©: The student is appropriately engaged in a cognitive task.
This included listening to content- related instruction, managerial directions; watching a demonstration, answering a question from either the teacher or other students, and/or discussing critical elements of a motor skill or general class behavior with the teacher or other student(s).
