MINUTES - APPROVED

  1. Call to Order

Fred Deys called the meeting to order.

Sam Maga has been acclaimed as the new chief steward to replace Anna when she retires in the Fall. Fred thanked Anna Gris on behalf of Local 240 for all her hard work.

  1. Adoption of Agenda

Moved by Veronica Weir, secondedby Gerry Dion to approve the agenda with the following addition:

6.3 Dismissal of Faculty Person

  1. Minutes of Previous Meeting

Moved by Greg Cormier, seconded by Anna Gris to adopt the minutes of the previous meeting as distributed.

  1. Treasurer’s Report

Sam Maga presented the 2007 Budget (both general and local fund) to the members.

Moved by Gerry Dion, seconded by Heather Perras to accept the budget as presented.

  1. Elections

Delegates will be voted upon to attend the Convention, Division (CAAT) and Region 2 conferences:

Nominations of Delegates: need to vote for 3 positions

Sam Maga – will stand

Veronica Weir – will stand

Heather Giardine – will stand

Roberta Burke - declined

All delegates have been acclaimed.

Nominations of Alternates: need to vote for 2 positions

Roberta Burke – will stand – 1st alternate

Greg Cormier – will stand – 2nd alternate

Process for position of Treasurer

The position will start September 1, 2007 – only LEC members are eligible to be nominated. This item will be discussed at the June LEC meeting.

  1. New Business

6.1Update on Workload Committee (Pilots) – Pilot projects were a result of last year’s faculty strike and the Kaplan Award. Data from the 2007-08 pilot projects will be needed for the next round of bargaining.

6.2Update on Staffing – With the early retirement incentive – 33 faculty will be retiring. 7 positions will be replaced – 6 new positions will be created. This is a net loss of 20 positions. The union will be looking at the next hike in part time, partial load and sessional faculty. Mohawk currently has 450 full time faculty.

6.3Dismissal of Faculty Member

Moved by Gaspare Bonomo, seconded by Gerry Dion to send a letter to the Board of Governors on behalf of Local 240 regarding concerns with the recent dismissal of faculty member Rick Knowles.
