JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE OF JOB:Early Years Practitioner

LOCATION:The LeaPrimary School and Nursery

GRADE:H3

1. JOB OUTLINE

1 a) REASON JOB EXISTS

To support a Foundation Stage teacher in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This is focused on helping the children to achieve early learning goals.

1 b) Responsibilities

  • motivating and stimulating the children's learning abilities, often using play activities;
  • interacting with and supporting children, providing them with a secure environment to learn;
  • devising and producing visual aids and teaching resources;
  • organising learning materials and resources, and making imaginative use of resources;
  • assisting with the development of children's personal/social and language abilities;
  • supporting the development of children's basic skills, including physical co-ordination, speech and communication;
  • encouraging children's mathematical and creative development through stories, songs, games, drawing and imaginative play;
  • developing children's curiosity and knowledge;
  • working with others to plan and coordinate work;
  • sharing knowledge gained with other practitioners and parents and carers;
  • observing, assessing and recording each child's progress;
  • ensuring the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all activities, both inside and outside school;
  • keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice;
  • supervise, and provide individual support for, pupils with identified special educational needs;
  • attending in-service training.

1 d) HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection; and report all concerns to an appropriate person.

1 e) CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU

  • This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. An enhanced disclosure will be sought through the DBS as part of Hertfordshire County Council’s pre-employment checks. 2.SUPERVISION

  • The jobholder is managed by the Classteacher.

3.JOB CONTEXT

  • The jobholder is one of a team of teachers and assistants who support the learning of pupils. Flexibility by all staff is important in order to meet the varied needs of pupils.
  • The jobholder is managed by the Early Years Foundation Stage Leader but may work with other teachers. The jobholder works under the day-to-day direction and supervision of the teacher to whom she is assigned.

5.KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of the Foundation Stage development statements.
  • Ability to write reports that will be helpful and give information to parents, carers and professional staff.
  • Recognised child care qualification equivalent to NVQ level 3.

6. PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • There is a requirement, subject to appropriate training, to lift and carry children.

7. WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • There is a need, from time to time, to wipe up blood and other bodily fluids.

This role will be reviewed annually as part of the appraisal process
