7comments/guidance to inspection element

The purpose with these comments is to facilitate the Self-Inspection and Installation Inspection. It shortly summarizes MBE 401 and mentions the most common working elements. For detailed information look further in MBE and other referring documents (ELSÄK-FS, TBE) and plant specific design instructions.

7.1Inspection of cord marking

Example:

  • Inspect type of marking, colour and orientation.

7.2Inspection of PE- and PEN- marking

Example:

  • Protective earth conductor (PE) shall be marked green/yellow in all its length
  • PEN-conductor shall be green/yellow and be equipped with an added light blue colour marking in both its ends.

7.3Wire marking

Wires should be marked with numbers in both ends. Type, colour and orientation are inspected.

7.4Wiring

The inspection concerns wire laying in enclosures, cabinets and components.

7.5Inspection of no visible damages

7.6Inspection of the performance of wire-laying

Requirements on wiring according to technical provisions TBE 104 and118 should be fulfilled in applicable parts.

Example:

  • Wires should be laid in canals, conduits or shield coil
  • Wires should be laid within safe distance from warm components. Protection are to be found against squeezing, friction, wearing and tearing off. At conductor wiring through metallic objects, edges should be rounded chamfered or being equipped with an edging.
  • Stress relieving of cables and conductors are to be found for connection to each terminal
  • Cable, who has not been connected from below, should be laid in order to prevent water to regain admittance into the apparatus.

7.7Connections

Inspection considering connections of cable conductors, shields and wires in enclosures and components

7.8Inspection of the cable fitting

Example:

  • Cable fittings shall be correctly tightened.
  • Correct dimension (the cable diameter is not to be adapted with e.g. insulation tape).
  • Cable fittings (plugs for blinds) should be made of nickel-plated brass.

7.9Inspection of protective earthing.

  • Requirements on the performance of protective earthing and connection to protective earthing according to TBE104 and 118 and Installation Instructions are to be fulfilled.
  • Cabinets and enclosures for inspection equipment should have earth connection, which gives a safe and permanent earthing of all metallic parts. Serial grounding is not allowed.
  • Good earth terminal should have been achieved if screws have been used for earthing (only allowed for small units) through paint being removed or that toothed washers or screws been used.
  • If components have been installed in doors, hinges are not approved as earth connection. They have to be connected with a flexible cord.
  • Concentric conductor and drain wire or cords in cable with conductors, wich are of the same colour, If they are used as protective conductors, they are to be fitted with green yellow tube.
  • Current Transformers secondary winding should be connected to earth near the current transformer in such a way that earthing is performed on the side, which is directed towards the bus bar.
  • Voltage Transformers secondary side should be connected to earth near the voltage transformer.

7.10Inspection of screen earthing

Requirements on performed screen earthing and connection to protective earth according to TBE 104 and 118. MBE should be fulfilled in its practical parts.

Example:

  • Joints of shielded cables, e.g. in junction boxes, where shields should be jointed without being connected to earth, an insulated shield bar should be of use. Disturbance conductors should be insulated with yellow tubing in new installations, and existing color at completions. Screened cable should be unsheathed at connection terminal in cupboard and connected with shortest possible screen conductors (<5 cm)
  • The individual screened cable must be peeled at the bottom of the cupboard and individual screen will be taken off first at the connection terminal.

7.11Inspection of screwed terminals

  • Internal wiring are to have maximum two conductors connected to the same screw terminal point and when done, under the following conditions:
  • Single-core and stranded conductors are not to be connected to the same terminal. Exceptions are allowed for multiple conductors with a sleeve pin.
  • If two single-core conductors are connected to the same terminal, the very same are to have the same diameter.
  • If two stranded conductors are connected to the same terminal, the very same are to have a proportion between the conductors diameter that are not bigger than 2:1.
  • Within connection of stranded conductors in connection, where the conductors are not all to well united in the terminal, lugs should be used.
  • Only two cable lugs are allowed to be connected into each terminal A washer should always be used under nut or screw head. Cable clips must be installed in such angle position that mechanical deformation does not occur within tightening. Ring cable clips should always be installed with screw, only clamping under clamps is not allowed
  • Loose strands are not to exist outside the connection. Cable clips are not to be bent/crocked.
  • Termination of copper conductors should be done with contact crimped cable lug (plane washer and dome washer) or with clamping if such are available. Conductors should have such length that a terminal switch can be made. i

7.12Inspection of soldered terminals

Requirements of soldered connections according to TBE 105 should be fulfilled

Example:

  • Soldering is normally not allowed for connections other than electronic equipment.
  • Make sure that soldered seam has not been exposed to bend or tensile stress.
  • Make sure that soldering has only been done for connection intended for soldering.

7.13Inspection of contact pressure moulding

Requirements according to TBE 104 should be fulfilled

Example:

  • Contact crimping is only to be used for stranded conductors.
  • Contact device and conductors should be adjusted to the correct area.
  • No loose strands are to exist outside the contact element.
  • Cracking or other types of visible damages are not allowed.
  • Make sure that prescribed check dimension is held.

7.14Make sure that that extra conductors is fixed and insulated

Requirements on wiring according to TBE 104 should be fulfilled.

Example:

  • Extra cords should be separated from used cords and at their ends be equipped with top sleeves.

7.15Inspection of cleanness

Make sure that the enclosures are cleaned

7.16Inspection of performed connection

Requirements according to Installation Instructions of the object in question are to be fulfilled.

7.17Inspection of connection of hot objects

Example:

  • Cables shall be securely fixed beside the components, so that tension stress in the cable not can load the conductors.
  • Cable, who has not been inserted from below, shall be laid in order to prevent water to regain admittance into the device.
  • Insertions from above are to be avoided.

7.18Inspection of wire wrap.

Wire wrap shall be performaccording toMBE and

Commendationin SS-EN60352.

Example:
