2018 Tour Pack
NADEAU’S PLAYSCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Children need a “child-friendly” environment that is safe, caring and comfortable and will promote equally all areas of a child’s development; physical, social, emotional and intellectual. Children should be provided balance, a variety of activities, and types of involvement that takes into consideration all the different learning styles. There must be enough flexibility within these planned offerings to spontaneously accommodate group or individual needs, unexpected circumstances, or parental visits. Opportunities to learn how to function effectively within a group setting and become aware of the needs of others, while at the same time being accepted as an individual, are also important to a young child’s development and should be considered in any program.
Our childcare center has a goal to provide an enriching environment: which supports the needs of each and every child. We respect each child as an individual with the potential for growth and learning.
➢ We provide loving care and we nurture each child’s self-worth.
➢ We offer many choices for the children.
➢ We treat the children with respect.
➢ We listen as well as talk to the children.
➢ We offer an environment with a variety of experiences.
➢ We believe in a child-centered model of care giving.
A developmentally appropriate curriculum shall be planned in advance to reflect our program’s philosophy and goals for the children. A weekly curriculum shall be posted for parent’s review. A daily schedule of children’s daily activities will be posted or otherwise be made available to parents. The daily activities guide will provide the following:
a. Indoor/outdoor
b. Activity time (quiet and active)
c. Group time (small, large, and individual)
d. Large muscle/small muscle
e. Staff initiated/child initiated
Each child shall have their own primary care space to offer security and continuity in the program. All Vermont childcare centers are licensed by the state. A copy of the state regulations is posted on the parent information board. The director has an “open door” policy. We encourage any concerns or questions be made to the teachers and/or the director.
NADEAU’S PLAYSCHOOL
DISCIPLINE/GUIDANCE PHILOSOPHY
The goal for discipline is to help the children develop self-control and to become self-disciplined, to develop an inner sense of acceptable and unacceptable behavior. We think of discipline as offering guidance and being supportive and helpful to the children. We support verbal communication between children, encouraging them to use their words to express their feelings. Feelings can be accepted; certain actions must be limited. Helping children learn to express themselves with self-control will help develop self-confidence by knowing they can solve problems on their own. We set clear limits within the space and program so that expectations are clear.
We will use redirection and calm down times to allow a child time to gain control of his or herself. In extreme cases where a child poses a threat to another child or his or herself, parents will be called and the child may be removed from the program for the day. It is at the discretion of the Director if a child is to be removed permanently from the program.
Discipline at the childcare center will be positive, supportive, and non-physical.
CHILD ABUSE POLICY
Vermont State law requires that our center report all suspected incidences of child abuse and/or neglect to the Department for Families and Children; Family Services Division within 24 hours.
The number is 802-241-2131.
The Child Care Consumer Concern number is 1-800-649-2642.
The Parents Assistance Line (PAL) is 1-800-PARENTS (1-800-727-3687)

Payment:
Payment is due the first day of your week. If you would like to pay in advance for 4 weeks at a time we will reduce the tuition by 3%. If you do not pay for the 4 weeks on the day that it is due, the 3% will not apply. A $5.00 fee per day will be applied to any late payments. Payments may be made in cash or check. Please be advised we are only able to extend one discount to each family. If you take advantage of the sibling discount you are not eligible for the 3% discount for paying 4 weeks at a time.
Deposit
Upon enrolling your child a non-refundable deposit equivalent to one week’s tuition is due along with the other required paperwork. This deposit is NOT refundable and depending on the departure circumstance, it will be applied toward your child’s last week at the center. If a family is asked to leave the facility, the deposit will absolutely not be refunded.
2-Week Notice
A two-week notice in writing is required when leaving the center. Should you decide to give up your spot and not attend our facility, your deposit is still non-refundable.
Termination
If at any time it is in the best interest of the childcare center to terminate a relationship with a family, we will do so immediately. It is at the discretion of the owner and or director to determine if a two-week notice is acceptable or depending upon the circumstance immediate dismissal is necessary. We believe parents should be respectful to the staff. Parents are expected to voice concerns and questions to the owner or director.
Sick Time
When your child is sick or you decide to keep your child home on his regular scheduled day to be at the center, full tuition must still be paid in full. (Special arrangements can be made for long-term illness.) Please call and let us know in the morning if your child will not be in child care on that day.
Transitions
When your child is ready to transition to the next room, we give at least a two-week notice to prepare you and your child. We transition based on age, development, and when there is space to move into the next classroom. We try to have your child start to spend time in their new room in small time frames over a two-week period so they have time to adjust. We find parents also need time to adjust ☺ Feel free to get to know your new teachers and ask questions. Keep in mind that sometimes your child is ready to move to the next level physically and emotionally but you are not ready. Talk this over with your child’s current teacher. We want you to feel comfortable and at ease with the transition.

Nadeau’s Playschool will operate as a childcare/preschool Monday-Friday all year long. We will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m.
