Miss Frownfelter’s Language Arts Expectations

Dear Parents and Students:

I want to take this opportunity to cordially welcome you to Genoa Middle School. My name is Ashley Frownfelter;this is my fifth year teaching at Genoa Middle School.This year I will be teaching American History 8 and Language Arts 8. I graduated from OhioUniversity with a degree in Middle Childhood Language Arts and Social Studies. I received my Masters degree in 2010 from Ashland University in Curriculum and Instruction. This is my fourth year as the Washington D.C. trip coordinator! When I am not teaching I enjoy coaching the 7th grade Lady Jags basketball team. I look forward to working at Genoa with the great staff and students. My goal is for each student to have a successful, rewarding, and an enjoyable school year. In order to achieve my goal I have set some guidelines for each individual student’s success.

Rules

-Be respectful at all times to everyone.

-Come to class prepared daily.

-Be seated and ready to begin with all materials when the bell rings.

-Follow given instructions.

Classroom Discipline

Should the above-mentioned rules be broken, the following consequences will result:

-Warning (verbal or nonverbal cue)

-Time out with teacher intervention/discussion

-Level I Office Referral with parent contact

-Level II Office Referral

Absence

When a student is absent from school he or she will have equal to the number of days missed to submit any work. Students will be able to obtain the assignments missed in the student crate, located on the front table. Students can also check the class website or hybrid textbook class page. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what has been missed during the absence.

- Notebook Paper

- Dividers or Tabs to locate material quicker!

Also to keep everyone here and healthy please feel free to donate tissues, hand sanitizer, or disinfectant spray or wipes! Any donations are greatly appreciated!

Homework

Homework will be given throughout the week. It is essential for you to bring homework to class so we can go over it. However, no late homework will be accepted. This will result in a zero. Students will not be allowed to go to their lockers to get homework. It is vital that students come prepared with all materials. If students forget what was assigned for homework they can go to the class website.

Course of Study

We will be following the Common Core Standards this year in language arts. The standards can be found on this website Along with the Common Core, we will also be covering a variety of genres in literature and other topics to help prepare for the OAA.

Washington D.C. Trip Informational Meeting

I will be conducting an informational meeting regarding the annual 8th grade Washington D.C. trip. A representative from Prodigy Student Travel will be there to answer questions. I encourage you to attend if your child is interested in going! At the meeting you will be receiving important documents and payment plan dates!

Mark your calendar for September 19 at 7 p.m. in the Commons.

Curriculum Night

This year curriculum night is on Thursday, August. 22rd at 6 P.M. I encourage everyone to attend if possible.
