Introductions / Everyone introduced themselves and welcomed new member: math instructor Ryan Petitfils.

Approval of meeting minutes / The August 26, 2013 minutes were accepted with corrections. / Andrea motioned to approve minutes with corrections. Erica seconded minutes approved with corrections. / Eileen Crump
Professional Development Activities / Bill Hart mentioned that there are no professional development workshops planned for the Title V Velocidad Grant.
It was recommended to have evening workshops, so faculty who teach in the evening can attend.
College was awarded $5100 for Multicultural Week. A subcommittee will form to oversee event.
International Studies faculty from other local colleges can give professional development presentations at Ventura College.
Ben Somoza would like to tie Film Series with Spanish Heritage Month next academic year by including an evening of music, dance, mariachi band, flamenco guitar, and flamenco dance. Consider inviting international studies faculty from local college to give presentations.
There was discussion to make Ventura College into a civic center for the community to gather and interact with staff and students. Rick Trevino can help students get involved.
Committee will plan workshops for Professional Development Week February 18-21, 2014 for faculty who do not participate in SITE 2014.
Erica will email academic and classified senate presidents and vice chancellor of human resources for a list of people who serve in the new District Professional Development Committee.
Newly hired classified employees do not have an orientation. Committee can help organize one. / Erica will ask for a list of District Professional Development Committee members. / Ben Somoza

Goal: Enhance existing campus activities:

·  Spanish Heritage Month
·  International Studies Speakers
It was suggested that committee goals should be more general rather than specific; this way the committee can capture more goals.
Committee is asked to select two or three goals for the following academic year. / Alex motioned to make this a goal and Ben seconded the motion
Program Review / Committee will ask for funds to promote professional development activities through outreach to Ventura College Staff, students and community. Currently professional development has no funds, so funds will be requested in program review.
Committee will try to institutionalize funds for professional development through Program Review.
The Professional Development Program Review for 2013-2014 will be emailed to committee for their input.
Classified Staff was awarded $5000 last academic year for professional development. / Eileen will email Program Review documents to committee. / Eileen Crump
Professional Development Surveys / The District Classified Professional Development Committee emailed a Survey Monkey to get feedback on what kind of training the classified staff wants.
Moorpark and Oxnard Colleges do not have classified staff development, only faculty professional development.
A Survey Monkey from the Ventura College Professional Development Committee will be emailed to faculty and staff for feedback on what they want for staff development. Deans and department chairs are asked to encourage divisions to fill out survey. Paper surveys will also be available. Shout Out to Faculty/Staff / Andrea solicited 9 staff members and received 3 responses from individuals who are willing to be highlighted for the month. Dina videotaped first selection of staff and is editing video. Video will be uploaded to the Ventura College website. There is a short version and longer version of the video available.

New Full Time Faculty Orientation Subcommittee / The topic of the first meeting was Tenure. Ryan Petitfils thought the orientation was very useful.

Multicultural Day / First meeting October 2 from 3 pm – 4 pm in CCCR
Pirate Soup / Dina will review Pirate Soup and bring back new ideas to use for professional development.

End-of-the-year picnic for Ventura College Faculty/Staff / It was recommended to schedule an end-of-the-year picnic with games for faculty and staff after graduation ceremony.
Spring Professional Development Workshops / Committee will bring ideas for spring professional development workshops.
