Minutes of the Parish Advisory Council of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church

Held on Monday 7th March 2016

Present:Richard Seamarks, Mark Slane (Vice Chair), Fr Matthew, Celia Sharland, Arthur Staton, Phil King, Lynn Johnson, Denise Lissaman, Marion Smith, Binoy Kuriakose, Alina Stojewska, Lindsaye Briscoe

Father Matthew led the opening prayer

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved

Fr Matthew’s Report
  • Fr Matthew gavehis report, all members received a copy
  • Annie Doherty is to make an appeal. It is hoped that this will be the start of a new project within the parish
Actions Arising
  • First aid kits have been fitted in both halls, now need one in the church
Buildings
  • The hall cleaning is not value for money. Would prefer to have a self-employed cleaner for 3 hours a week than to be paying for the current firm. Will advertise in the newsletter and give support with setting up
  • Plans for new signs for hall and church to be circulated by email for approval
  • Some kneelers in church have been repaired, some still require new bolts
Finance
  • Phil gave the finance report, all members received a copy
  • Offertory is slightly higher during the past few weeks, fuller attendance at mass could be one reason
  • Hall rent is reduced due to expenditure and higher cleaning bills
  • Redecoration fund continues to grow
  • Possibility of using to raise money for the SVP
  • The Tote is not going well at this time and needs some advertising. Will look to replace with a 200 club in about 6 months
  • Fascia on church, house and hall will soon need replacing. Will be factored into next year’s budget. Quotes to be sought
  • Quotes to be sought for expansion of repository
Buildings
  • Heaters in church are marking the walls. Solution to be found and put in place
  • Tree surveys need to be carried out in order to ensure safety
  • Need to ensure that any electrical items brought onto the premises are either less than a year old or have a current PAT sticker. Sign to be put on every plug reminding visitors
  • Grounds need a thorough clean. This will be done on Saturday 19th March at 11:30. Gloves to be provided

  • Volunteers and offers of food are needed for Communion breakfast on Saturday 21st May. List to be put up
  • A plan is submitted to turn the unused area outside the toilets into a garden tended by the Brownies. The first stage will be to clear this area of undergrowth
