Officer Reports

President – Carol Eberhart

  • The 2018 Club Championship tournament will include a Super Senior Champion. That player must be 70 or older and cannot be in the Championship flight. The scores from the two Tuesday rounds will be used to determine the Super Senior Champion. Players in the Championship flight, regardless of age, will compete only for the overall Club Champion title.
  • GLGA posts scores from the three major tournaments (Member Member, Presidents Cup and Club Championship) and from the four annual Medallion events as tournament scores.
  • The number of holes reserved for Tuesday league play is determined strictly by the number of players who have signed up online as of midnight on the prior Tuesday. All other positions in the shotgun are returned to the Golf Shop and made available via Chelsea. Members who miss the sign-up deadline will be included on a wait list, and they will be advised if any cancellations are received by noon on the Sunday before league day.
  • Acknowledgements and appreciation were given for the outstanding Member Member tournament chaired by Veronica Foltz and Norma Kurtz. The attention to detail for the tournament and the luncheon were phenomenal.
  • Acknowledgements and appreciation were given for the “It’s All About Cimarron” event. Carolyn Broback, Avalon Benell, Diane Stewart, Carol Eberhart, and Marge Rider joined forces to provide the members with a special twist on normal league play.
  • Acknowledgements and appreciation were given for Deb Coulter and her group of volunteers who distributed phone books. Despite a glitch in scheduling, Deb was able to regroup, and, because of the efforts of a few ladies, our treasury gains additional revenue to support club activities for all members.
  • A reminder from Chris Stevens, Nominating Committee chair, that bios for members who are interested in running for 2018-2019 Board positions must be submitted to her by Feb. 15.
  • The Golf Club Presidents’ and the Charter Club Presidents’ meetings have been cancelled for February. So, there will be no report at our next meeting.

Vice President – Jane Barry

  • The Cancer SucksCharity Tournament is scheduled for February 27. At this time 156 members have signed up online, but only 78 have turned in their entry forms. Norma has sent emails to remind players that both are needed. As the date gets nearer, she will send a targeted email (rather than a blast to the entire membership) to remind them again. As of February 5, she had received $3,885 in donations – cash donations, stickers, One-Putt purchases, split pot contributions, and hole sponsorships.
  • The deadline for entries for Member Guest was Jan. 31, and at that time there were 190 players. Veronica is working on finding another twosome so we could have 96 players on each course. GFS will be a full shotgun with 12 holes assigned for the tournament and 6 holes filled with Chelsea players. GFN will be a reverse shotgun with 12 holes assigned to the tournament in reverse hole order. This will allow the Golf shop to make tee times available on GFN through Chelsea after roughly 10:30 after the last group of tournament players has cleared the #1 tee. This will not affect our 2-course shotgun start, but it will eliminate the need for a double shotgun in the afternoon, which is somewhat problematic for the Granite Falls Golf Shop. Veronica Foltz has requested a change in where tournament players assigned to GFNpark before the tournament. Because there will be 48 non-tournament players on GFS, we want to ensure that they have access to cart parking, the range, and the practice green. Kevin will discuss the proposed change with Jeff Hochman and report back to us.

Secretary – Carol Lang

  • No report

Treasurer – Mary Holmes

  • We have a balance of $19,437.94 in the account.
  • The draft budget report for January was prepared by Jane Barry due to Mary’s travel plans. The final report will be available for Board approval and posting on the website after Mary has had an opportunity to thoroughly review and approve it.
  • Mary received and read a thank you letter from AWGA for our $100 contribution to their charity.
  • Carol Eberhart raised a question about the balance shown for the 2018 Member Guest tournament. The current amount reflects the surplus that was left after the 2017 event, plus the revenue from the split pot raffle at the opening luncheon, less the cost of the 2018 tee gifts that were purchased in 2017. The split pot revenue and the payment for the gifts were recorded as 2017 transactions even though they are for the 2018 event.

Committee Reports

Social – Paula Lambkin

  • The theme for the 2018 Awards Luncheon will be “Rock Stars” and the colors will be red, black and blue to coordinate the Play of the Day event.
  • Sharko’s will cater the buffet luncheon, and provide a hot meal (chicken) with sides and dessert for $15 per person.
  • Seating assignments will be based on starting holes with table stanchions to identify table numbers. Members who attend the meeting and/or luncheon will be seated on the wall at the pavilion.

Play of the Day – Carolyn Broback

  • March 6 will be the CanAm, event hosted this year by the Canadian “eh Team” team of Cathy Bildfell, Cheryl Yaehne, and Pat McEwen. Play will be 8:00 shotguns on GFN and GFS followed by Happy Hour at the Lakeside Pavilion and featuring All-American Apple-tinis and open mic entertainment. The Golf Shop will be using reverse shotguns as explained above for the Member Guest event. Nancy Foy suggested changing the date of the March Board meeting to allow the Board members full participation in this event.
  • The report of January payouts was presented – in abbreviated format – to Board members.
  • Projections for Feb-Dec payouts and the methodology used for managing the POD budget were reviewed.

Membership – Nancy Foy

  • Membership is at 287.
  • There will be another New Member Reception on February 14 at Nancy’s home. Most Board members expect to attend and 13 new members have confirmed their attendance.
  • Nancy was happy to report that over $1,000 was donated at the Member Member luncheon to support Megan Osland in the pursuit of her pro golf career.

Pairings and Scorecards – Cindy Nickels reporting for Kathy Fuller

  • No issues to report.
  • Carolyn Broback complimented Cindy for acting as our on-site Pairing and Scorecards Director substitute during the months Kathy Fuller is not here in SCG. She has learned how to use the new Golf Genius software and has worked well with POD to ensure transparency in weekly league play preparation.
  • A discussion regarding using special perforated cardstock for the two remaining major tournament resulted in the decision to obtain it for Club Championship. Jane Barry will coordinate with Kathy Fuller to retrieve the cardstock from storage.

Major Tournaments – Pat McEwen

  • The Member Member tournament was a great success. Although a few comments were made regarding the tournament format, the consensus was that it provided the basis for a great tournament. The number of players was 182, which was well over half our membership. The consensus was that moving the tournament from December to January resulted in greater participation.
  • The President’s Cup tournament is scheduled for Feb 13 & Feb 20 on GFS and Desert. At the time of the meeting 142 members had signed up with registration closing at midnight. If there are 144 or fewer players, it will be a one-course event with any overflow players assigned to a different course. Pat indicated some concern at the low number of members who have ordered lunch for the scoring party after the round on Feb. 20. An email can be sent to tournament participants only to remind them to order lunch if the number remains low.
  • An email was received from a member concerned about the course assignments for two-course events and how it impacts parking at the post-tournament gatherings. The Board discussed various options, but no changes will be implemented at this time.
  • The addition of the Super Senior winner to the Club Championship was covered by Carol Eberhart in her report.

Handicap – Judy Lashelle

  • Three motions were carried unanimously to revise and clarify the language used on the website (indicated below as deleted andadded):
  • Regarding Tournament Eligibility as defined on the Major Decision tab:

All GLGA members in good standing who have an established AWGAofficial 18-hole handicap are eligible to participate in all Major Tournaments

  • Regarding posting of league scores as defined on the Major Decision tab:

The GLGA Handicap Committee will post all Tuesday Play Day scores for all members.of your league scores for you. This includes Tuesday play as well as any other day of the week when you play a league event.

  • Regarding posting of league scores as defined on the FAQtab:

I know GLGA posts my scores for handicap purposes on Tuesday playDaysas well as any other day of the week when I play a league event, how quickly do I need to post my non-league scores?

Pro-Liaison – Kevin Reagan

  • Report on Golf in general at SCG:
  • Rounds are ahead of budget by 3,146
  • Round revenue is ahead of budget by $142,852
  • Merchandise revenue is ahead of budget by $6,792
  • Snack bar sales are ahead of budget by $16,978
  • Ping sales were ~$11,500 in Nov. and Dec., and ~$7,500 in Jan. with over half the sales to non-residents
  • The Nine and Dine events have been very successful; two are scheduled for March.
  • Dates for upcoming Demo days will be announced, and a Super Demo Day will be held in March.

New Business

  • None

Unfinished Business

  • The Board discussed options for Summer Play. The question was posed as to whether our GLGA dues should cover payouts for the summer season. As stated on the website on the Major Decision tab:

Play of the Day

Summer League (June - September)

GLGA is a year-round club, with the following provision: members playing in the months of June through September will pay $3.00 each week they participate. November 13, 2007

It was decided that we will continue the practice of “pay to play” during the summer season, and the Handicap Committee will continue to have responsibility for posting the scores.

The Board Meeting adjourned at 10:55AM
