3.  Matters Arising

As a result of Ann doing the Course analysis, Sue H, Ann and I met up with Chris Whyntie and Judith Rowsell after a Handicap Committee meeting. After some discussion, changes were proposed and will be presented to the Main Committee next week. If it is decided to implement the changes proposed Andrew will have a new set of cards printed.

After a further plea for a book case, Linda Johnson kindly donated a book case which fits in the space ideally. Books have been installed and some are being read, and in fact one has been bought already!

Items from the Main Committee

There are no items from the Main Committee as there was no meeting in August.

4.  Lady Captain’s Report

Many thanks to Melanie for organising the Away Weekend. Twenty four of us made the journey over the old Seven Bridge to St Pierre. Everybody seemed to enjoy it despite the showers, which fortunately managed to stay off for the front nine on both days. The accommodation was very comfortable, once the beds had been reorganised! The food was tasty with plenty of choice, and the public areas were ideal for our get together in the evening as well as the presentations on the last day.

In the area final of the Coronation Foursomes at Bath on Tuesday 22nd August, Heather Bush and Sue Rees came 68th out of 92 pairs. It was won by a pair from Parkstone at Poole with 38 points.

On Wednesday 23rd August we played our away match against Orchardleigh and lost 5½ - 1½, however we were able to beat them quite convincingly yesterday at home with a score of 5-2. There is one match left to play – at home against Cricket St Thomas on Tuesday next week. We have played nine matches and have 32.5 points. Cricket has played the same number of matches and has 33.5 points. Mendip are at the top of our division after 10 matches with 39 points Stockwood Vale and Orchardleigh both have 34 points after 10 matches. The minimum number of points we need to go up to Division 2 is two, but I would expect more than that as it is a home match, and we have won all our home matches. No pressure then!

Congratulations to Wheathill Senior Ladies as they drew their friendly match against Weston-Super-Mare on the 31st August.

You will be pleased to hear that Dave Gregory has given us the cheque for £75 to help Helen with our finances.

Congratulations were extended to AG on her selection as Vice Captain for 2017-2018.

HL. ‘Breakthrough Brooch’. This is awarded to the lady with the best score in the September Medal competition. ( the first score to count). The cost for this brooch is £5 and it is customary for us to also make a donation of £5 to the charity.

There are ball markers available from the breast cancer charity at a cost of £1.

The Committee agreed that HL should purchase a quantity of these to be sold to members.

New Members. Many thoughts and ideas were exchanged regarding greater involvement of new lady members in club activities.

It was agreed that we should continue to extend invitations to join in roll-ups and other suitable club competitions as well as inviting them to play with other club members.

SH. A request was made to remind all ladies that there will be an extra Medal competition on October 5th. (This will replace the Medal competition cancelled earlier in the year due to unfavourable weather conditions).

SBa agreed to issue this reminder.

‘How many people make a competition?’

SH raised this question relating to the number of people who signed up to enter a competition and occasions when it might not be viable to proceed.

After much discussion it was thought that a minimum of 4 entrants would be appropriate. If 4 ladies sign up then only the top player will get a medal.

However if fewer than 4 ladies signed up it would still be a qualifying competition i.e. handicaps would still be affected: but no prizes would be given and ladies would therefore get their money back.

It was also agreed that if there are more than 6 entrants for a competition then prizes could be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

If there were 5 or 6 entrants then prizes would be given for only 1st and 2nd place.

SBa agreed to take this matter to the AGM for consideration.

There being no further business the meeting closed at 7.05 p.m.

Date of next meeting: Wednesday 18th October 2017

Location: Jubilee Room, Wheathill Golf Club at 6.00.p.m.
