Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of May 14, 2008

President Greg Hanon called the Regular May 14 meeting of the Board of Directors of Sumner School District No. 320 to order at 6:05 p.m.

Approval of Agenda

Moved by Jeff DeMarre that the Board approve the agenda and supplemental agenda as presented: Seconded by Rick Hendricks. Motion unanimously carried.

Approval of Minutes

Moved by Mike Pavlik that the Board approve the minutes of the Regular May 7 Board meeting as presented: Seconded by Jeff DeMarre. Motion unanimously carried.

Consent Items

Moved by Mike Pavlik that the Board approve the consent items on the regular and supplemental agendas: Seconded by Rick Hendricks. Motion unanimously carried.

a. Delegation of Authority to WIAA

The Board delegated authority to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for the 2008- 2009 school year to control, supervise and regulate the conduct of interschool athletic activities and other interschool extracurricular activities of an athletic, cultural, social or recreational nature for students in the Sumner School District (Resolution No.11/07-08).

b.Surplus Property

The Board authorized the District to surplus items on the District Surplus Removal Listing.

c. Contract Ratifications

Suzanne Britanyak, Physical Therapist, Special Services, increase contract from a .80 FTE

continuing to a .80 FTE continuing contract and a .20 FTE time-limited contract, effective 2008-

2009 school year

d. Retirements

Ann Freeman, Paraeducator, Victor Falls Elementary, effective end of 2007-2008 school year

David Page, Paraeducator, Bonney Lake Elementary, effective end of 2007-2008 school year

Yvonne Riveness, Bus Driver, Transportation, effective June 19, 2008

e. Leave of Absences

Kandy Rose, Computers Teacher, Lakeridge Middle, continued request for a .50 FTE leave of

absence with pay for SEA President duties, effective 2008-2009 school year

Reports

a.Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR)

Accountant Sandee Chittenden presented the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and detailed the difference between CAFR and State mandates.

Meeting Recessed for Executive Session: 6:10 p.m.

President Greg Hanon announced an Executive Session for the purpose of reviewing the performance of

a public employee and for discussing collective bargaining. Board action was anticipated.

Meeting Reconvened: 6:34 p.m.

Moved by Mike Pavlik that the Board approve the 2007-2008 performance evaluation of the

superintendent and Greg Hanon be appointed to discuss with Dr. Mendoza contract revisions, with a

proposal to be brought before the Board in June. Seconded by Sherm Voiles. Motion unanimously

carried.

Moved by Jeff DeMarre that the Board approve the Extra-Curricular Collective Bargaining

Agreement between the Sumner Education Association and the Sumner School District for the

period of September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2011. Seconded by Rick Hendricks. Motion

unanimously carried.

Meeting Recessed for Public Hearing: 6:41 p.m.

President Greg Hanon announced a public hearing and asked for comments on the Student Achievement

Fund. No comments were voiced.

These textbooks have been reviewed and approved by the District Curriculum and Instructional

Materials Committee and were accepted by the Board for first reading. The Administration

recommends the Board adopt the following textbooks for use in the Sumner School District:

No action taken. Moved to the June 18 agenda.

c. Approval of Copier Contract

No action taken. Moved to the June 18 agenda.
