6. Other – Bilyana and Donica
- Bilyana and Donica attended a workshop organized by Peel District School Board and want to share some ideas with the School Council
- Ideas around having presentations at the school
- George K – re. internet usage, safety and etiquette
- Scott – his presentation is offered through the school board; is an expensive presentation to bring to the school but maybe there are others offered through the board on this topic that are not as expensive
- Students get etiquette, safety – “citizenship” through school
- Perhaps set up an evening in the fall for parents and students
- Peel police offer – “cyber bullying and “how to keep your kids safe” – perhaps bundle this with “using tech appropriately” as one presentation
- Tech changes all the time, but need to teach responsible behaviour which becomes embedded
- Anthony McLean does a session on youth leadership and self-esteem
- This year the theme of the first assembly was character, anti-bullying, self-esteem; themes about being the best you can be – impacts in the classroom – teachers us this concept and language in the classroom
- Re. funding for presentations – can there be funding for parent presentations?
- There are some grants that can be applied for – up to $1500
- Potential to team up with a family of schools to reach more parents – but caution that if its at another school there may be less attendance from the other schools
