MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING OF PETERSFIELD BRIDGE CLUB
HELD AT
The Community Centre, PETERSFIELD ONThursday 13th. March, 2014.
AT 5.30 p.m.

Action
Apologies for Absence– No apologies were received as all committee members were present.Approval of Minutes of previous meeting- Approved and signed by the Chairman.
Matters arising from last meeting–There were no matters arising.
Chairman’s Report –As this was the Chairman’s first Committee Meeting he had nothing to report at this stage. He and Margaret Stothard were welcomed by the rest of the Committee.
Secretary’s Report –Diana reported that all correspondence had been forwarded to the committee.
Treasurer’s Report–Liz reported that we now have 83 members and that entry money for the Congress is coming in.
New Members –Ian Schofield was approved as a new member and John Lockwood and Carole Lockwood were approved, subject to their application being on the board for two weeks.
Web-Site – Gordon reported that he had no information regarding the summer term of supervised play and John said that this will start on 15th. May.
Bridge Lessons – Gordon reported that a potential new member had emailed an enquiry through the website. Liz said that the two lots of year two will probably carry on for another year to consolidate what they have learned. Jenny has 16 in year 1, Margaret has 15 in year 1, and Judy has 29 in year 2. Judy also runs workshops on Friday evenings and John runs supervised play, with 5 tables, on Monday evenings. There are already 14 enquiries for September. It seems to be difficult to encourage the Monday players to join the club.
HIWCBA Competitions - The Chairman said that our team is in the final of the Solent Cup, playing against Basingstoke on 23rd. March. John said that the final of the Hicko is on the 2nd April and our team is himself, Margaret Stothard, Dennis Adams and Nick Silk. Our team of John Pearson, Margaret Stothard, Gordon Clarke, Rick Assad and Jenny Ashby is top of Division 2, with two more matches to play.
Dave Huggett Seminar – Maureen reported that our Club has ten members wishing to take part and that Mike Kinsey has booked the room. Liz said that we have received the invoice although the event is being organised by the County. Diana agreed to check with Mike regarding the details.
Purchase of Bridgemates – Mike Fithyan said that he would be playing in America next week and would look at the systems used there. Diana said that we need people properly trained to operate the system efficiently and agreed to email members to ask for volunteers. Liz brought up the point that we need to agree on a scoring system to be used by everyone and which will integrate with Bridgewebs and our database, and also update our competition data. There are two contenders, our present system Scorebridge and Jeff Smith. Margaret suggested that Martin Lee should give a presentation to the Committee and John Pearson will co-ordinate this.
Pairs Congress 2014– Maureen reported that 22 pairs had already confirmed and that arrangements were well underway.
Any Other Business –
- New Directors. It was agreed that the Committee should think about which members could make good directors and put forward suggestions.
- Random Seating. We had agreed at the last meeting that this was not a good idea but it was pointed out that the director has the power to change orientation if necessary..
