April 21, 2009
The School Board of Brevard County, Florida, met in special session on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in Florida Today newspaper on Friday, April 3, 2009 and the affidavit of publication with a copy of the notice attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

Lunch with Brenda Blackburn
Members Present: Robert Jordan, Dr. Barbara Murray, Amy Kneessy, Karen Henderson, Andy Ziegler
Special Guest Present: Brenda Blackburn
Lunch began at 1:00 p.m. in the Superintendent’s Conference Room. Ms. Blackburn is one of the two finalists for the position of Brevard County School District Superintendent. The Board enjoyed an afternoon of informal discussion with the candidate.
The lunch meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m. No Formal action was taken at this meeting.

Interview with Brenda Blackburn
The Brevard County School Board met in special session on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at the Educational Services Facility, Viera, Florida for the purpose of conducting a formal interview with Brenda Blackburn.
Chairman Robert Jordan called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.
Members Present: Robert Jordan, Dr. Barbara Murray, Amy Kneessy, Karen Henderson, Andy Ziegler
The School Board Members conducted an interview session with Ms. Blackburn. Following the candidate’s closing remarks; the Chairman recessed the meeting at 3:07 p.m. No Formal action was taken at this meeting.

Dinner with Dr. Brian Binggeli
Members Present: Robert Jordan, Dr. Barbara Murray, Amy Kneessy, Karen Henderson, Andy Ziegler
Special Guest’s Present: Dr. Brian Binggeli, Sherri Binggeli (candidate’s wife), and Hailey Binggeli
(candidate’s daughter)
Dinner begin at 5:01 p.m. in the Superintendent’s Conference Room. Dr. Binggeli is one of the two finalists for the position of Brevard County School District Superintendent. The Board enjoyed an evening of informal discussion with the candidate.
The dinner meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m. No Formal action was taken at this meeting.

The Brevard County School Board met in special session on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 6:00 p.m., at the Educational Services Facility, Viera, Florida for the purpose of conducting a formal interview with Dr. Brian Binggeli.
Chairman Robert Jordan called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.
Members Present: Robert Jordan, Dr. Barbara Murray, Amy Kneessy, Karen Henderson, Andy Ziegler
The School Board Members conducted an interview session with Dr. Binggeli. Following the candidate’s closing remarks; the Chairman recessed the meeting at 6:58 p.m. No Formal action was taken at this meeting. The special meeting reconvened at 7:07 p.m.

Discussion Vote for Superintendent of Brevard Public Schools
Mr. Jordan made a few opening statements about the process and his expectations as it pertains to the Superintendent Search.
Dr. Murray took this opportunity to state that she has never been prouder to work with a Board then she has her colleagues during these past few weeks. The Board has risen to the occasion, they have stayed focused, they have stayed on point, and they have not succumbed to pressures from special interest groups. She thanked them for their professionalism.
Mr. Ray stated that the Board will be doing a matrix because it brings consensus. Mr. Bistline and Mr. Ray will be tallying the matrixes and recording the results.
Mr. Ray read the results of the matrix: Dr. Brian Binggeli four (4) votes and Brenda Blackburn one (1) vote.
Mr. Jordan stated that he voted for Ms. Blackburn because he felt that she was an extremely strong candidate. Dr. Binggeli brings an interesting concept as it pertains to the students in the classroom and the district budget.
A motion was made by Dr. Barbara Murray with a second by Amy Kneessy to select Dr. Brian Binggeli as our candidate for the position of Superintendent of Brevard Public Schools and authorize School Board Attorney Harold Bistline and School Board Chairman Robert Jordan in contract negotiation.
Mr. Ziegler made a few remarks regarding the final two candidates. He stated that this was a difficult decision for the Board. Brevard will get the best of both worlds since both candidates will be working for the district.
Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Ray thanked the Board for giving Ray and Associates, Inc. the opportunity to work with Brevard Public Schools. He stated it was truly a pleasure to work with this Board and wished them well.
The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
