Finance:
Membership: 703 individuals, 32 clubs & organizations
President’s USATF CEO looking for 25% increase in membership. Looking outward for partnerships with High
Remarks: School and Middle School coaches with sharing opportunities through outreach and clinics
Old business: 1. LITF Awards Brunch – Alex to sign contract and give deposit on Tuesday
2. Athletes of the Year Awards – Each committee needs to send in their nominations for Athlete of the
Year
3 New Year’s Eve clinic – this went very well. There was weight throw, shot put, jumps, sprint
mechanics. There were about 60 participants. Seem to be on the same page with community.
4. Background screening – Alex urged every Board member to be background screened.
New business: Remembering Coach Mike Byrnes from Wantagh HS – requested in lieu of flowers a donation to College
Fund for track athletes; Coach Colbert Britt from Malverne – USATF-LI should give a donation to
Lakeview Athletic Club. Memorial services were packed.
Harry Penny tripped over starting blocks at a Suffolk High School meet which resulted in spinal injury.
He was taken to Bayshore Hospital and had surgery on his spine.
Committee Reports:
Track & Field (Rich) – the 2 meets we had so far went well, great racing, ending on time, 2nd week of officials were better than the 1st, participants seemed happy, more WAART athletes seem to be coming out, meets being looked on as a resource rather than an obstacle
LDR (Alex) – Finalized putting GP schedule together; collected $2600 in GP fees, $2750 still outstanding; next meeting on Monday 11th – will select Athlete of the Year; receipts and paperwork dropped off for Nassau XC grant; LDR has a new secretary – Bridget McCann
Race Walk (Gary) – received $5,500 donation from Walter Hawrys Foundation
MUT (Carl) – Caumsett is on March 6;as long as Caumsett is a National meet it will be a Boston Qualifier
Masters (Rob) – Positive feedback from Masters at the last 2 meets; Millrose possibility of separate awards
classification for 50+ women in the 4x4 relay
Youth Athletics (Sheryl) – 7 nominations for Athlete of the Year
Para Athletics (Fred) – Nothing much happening; looking towards Spring to put on about 3 events of short
distances with an eye to mainstreaming into Summer meets
Officials – comment from meets – officials need to fill out headings on the results sheets and need to be
sure that all events are covered when they are finished with their assigned area
Outreach – Alex reported that we should be getting a check from the National office for Outreach
Coaching Education (Fred) – July 17,18,19 – expect 100 students; Level 1 had 120 in Manhattan
Sports Medicine – Rich commented that Concussion management is geared towards team sports
