Minutes North Clare Network Meeting 01/12/06

Attendance: Jennifer Coleman, Maureen McCarthy, Ann Knox, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Mick O’ Riordan, Marian O’ Callaghan, Breda O’ Driscoll, Katie Lewis, Harriet Cotter, Thomas Woulfe and Jacinta Davenport

Update: AK: Adult Learners’ Festival will be celebrated nationally 22nd to 27th January 2006. Please notify CLLN office of events which will be posted to website. By checking the website it will then be possible to avoid events in the same area clashing. Also if events are posted to Aontas’ media coordinator will promote these events to local media.

Seamus B: A tutors’ networking event will be held on Wednesday December 6th from 7.00 to 9.00 at The Coffee dock in Clare Youth Service on Kilrush Rd, Ennis. All tutors welcome

A FETAC Seminar on peer/crossmoderation will be held in the Auburn Lodge Hotel, Ennis on Friday 9th February from 10.00 – 3.00. Please let Seamus know if there is any particular issue in this area that you want addressed.

Community Development Practice learners are ready to present portfolio and NIUM Cert in Community Development is underway. 12 people are working on a Youth Work module organised by Killaloe/Ballina FRC, EC Community Support, CLLN and Clare Youth Service.

Jacinta: Clare Adult Guidance Service are hoping to run interviews with students on Clare FM as part of the Adult Learners’ Festival. She is hoping to have a student from each of the network areas so if anyone knows of anyone who would be interested in being interviewed contact Jacinta at . Jacinta will contact Ann with details of organised events for publication on the Clare Lifelong Learning Network website.

Marian O’ Callaghan:All courses ongoing at the moment.

Maureen McCarthy: Maureen is the new Occupational Therapist for North Clare area. She will be based in Stella Maris in Lahinch and can be contacted at 7075100.

Jennifer Coleman: Jennifer is based in the Council Offices. Clare Supported Employment are running some pre employment courses at the moment.

Mick O’ Riordan: Currently working on an Interagency Strategy for Strengthening Provision of Services between Outside Agencies and the Travelling Community – focusing on Accommodation, Health, Work and Employment and Education. Mick is very interested in linking up with Harriet re 3rd level provision in the county.

Thomas Woulfe: Teagasc are running Reps / Environment and Computer courses at the moment in Ennis, Kilrush and Ennistymon.

Community Education grant application forms now available on Please return filled forms by December 15th .

Please return paperwork from Community Education funded courses run this year. The returned paperwork is used to source budget from the DES so it’s important that it’s filled in and returned.

Partnership Development Training on 15th and 16th of February; all welcome including those who could not attend other sessions.

Third Level Provision: model being tested by Harriet. Two programmes will be ready for February 2007 with programmes in Business, Childcare, Equine Science and Youthwork available in September. Please contact Harriet at with suggestions or requests.

Harriet will run an event for Adult Learners Festival in each network area.

An audit of facilities is underway. If you have not received a questionnaire and have rooms which can be used by other programmes, please contact CLLN; otherwise please return completed questionnaires.

Martina is working on the learner forum and will be in contact with some members in the next year.

Katie: CABES are currently working with the Travellers on literacy based programmes. Starting an Irish for Beginners course which will support parents in helping their children with their homework. Some spaces still available, contact Katie / BTEI office or Jacinta in Guidance on 065 6824819. Hoping to start up a metalwork / woodwork programme – no numbers as of yet.

Multiskills: Multiskills programme for farmers is going well.

BTEI: Providers should contact BTEI office with course requests for next year at 065 6824819. Wordprocessing course starting at end of January.

Jimmy Fitzpatrick: People from North Clare can call to see Jimmy at his office in the Kilrush Rd. Jimmy can be contacted on 087 6473522. Jimmy is always open to receiving proposals from partners in relation to co-funding. The proposal should list details of the programme, people on programme, funding arrangements and an estimation of the co-funding required.

Review of strategy for LLL: A review of strategy on Lifelong Learning has begun. The following decisions were taken:

Breda to contact Citizens Information Service and invite them to attend the next North Clare Network meeting.

Jacinta to send a list of all Adult and Community Education providers in North Clare to CLLN by December 15th for publication on a bookmark for next network meeting.

Ann to review CLLN website with Jacinta in relation to course search functionality.

Sustaining Networks: Planning for supporting the networks post Equal Project will begin at next network meeting. All invited to consider how they might contribute.
