Minidoka County School District

Technology Dept Report

December 8, 2015

Classroom Technology

·  We still have schools purchasing technology and we are keeping up with getting them provisioned where they go.

Teacher Laptops

·  All of the teachers have received their laptops that were planned for this year. Next year is budgeted to get the last of the teachers a new laptop. (need qty 80)

Infrastructure

·  Video Surveillance

o  The plan is to purchase several different brands and models of cameras and to figure out what we want to purchase as our standard cameras.

o  Challenges

§  Keeping them clean , focused, and positioned

§  Large amount of requests to move or re-angle

§  Several areas not covered.

§  Now that we have made it so easy to get to the video feeds we have more requests for moving or adding cameras.

o  Info

§  Acequia and Paul are the only schools without the new Servers to be able to remotely view and manage video.

§  The plan is to have a set amount of Budget every year to replace, move, or repair cameras and servers.

§  We currently have 9 Servers; 269 Cameras; 29 Failed Cameras

·  WiFi

o  WiFi coverage is actually very good throughout the buildings. We still need to add units to be 1 AP in every classroom.

o  The current WiFi Standard is WiFi-AC and we have several schools with WiFi-N units that will not be sufficient for new devices in the coming years.

o  Paul Elementary, Minco, and Mt. Harrison’s systems need replaced in the next year while we can get eRate reimbursement on them.

o  There is a chance that the state will not fund the WiFi at Minico and Mt. Harrison any more.

·  Phones

o  Cell Phones

§  Due to the board meeting being moved up a week, we will be presenting a solution to continue cell phone coverage that will be presented at the Board Meeting. We have an eRate timeline that does not allow us to pick a vendor until December 10th.

o  Office and Classroom Phones

§  The district office is getting an upgrade to the phone system this week. This doesn’t change any thing as far as use, just helps in connecting to the other systems.

§  Rupert Elementary is getting an entirely new system for phones during Christmas break. They currently have 17 classrooms without functioning phones.

·  Intercom

o  We will be trying out some solutions at the DSC to determine new speakers and call buttons that will interface with the new phone systems.

Work Orders

Work orders are not a good judgment in amount of work completed because we do several things that are not put into work orders and we do not track time worked on each work order.
