Please access Web of Science via the URL:

Select Web of Science Core Collection from the database menu. Make sure all settings are returned to the default set up.

1)From the Basic Search select Organization Enhanced from the search menu leave search box empty and click on Select from Index. Enter Univ Manchesterin the query box then click on Find. Click on the D icon to the left of University of Manchester to view the variants. Click on Add to the left-hand side of the Organization Name University of Manchester. Click on OK at the bottom of the page to return to the Basic Search page.

2)Click on Add another field. Select the Author field from the menu. Click on Select from index and enter Rothwell N in the query box then select Move to. Click on Add for Rothwell N and Rothwell NJ. At the bottom of the page, click on OK to return to the search page.

3)Run the search. How many results are returned?

4)Use the Sort By: Times Cited - Highest to Lowest to order the results. How many citations has the most cited paper received?

5)Refine the results by Open Access (note - look down the Refine options). How many papers are from OA journals? View these results.

6)Order these results by the Sort By: Publication Date - newest to oldest and open the first record on the page. Click on View Journal Information. Which categories does this journal belong to and what is the journal’s quartile position in these categories?

7)Return to the Web of Science Core Collection search page and select the All Databases search. Ensure the Basic Search is selected. Run a Topic search entering tropical diseases, searching All Years.

8)How many All Databases results are returned? Using the Refine tool, limit the results to those from the SciELO Citation Index. (Refine by Databases and click on more options/values to view the full list). How many results remain?

9)Return to the All Databases search page and now select SciELO Citation Index from the database list. Enter the following Topic search cancer de mamaand selectAll years. Cancer de mama is the Spanish translation for Breast Cancer.

10) Using the Refine tool to identify:

a)How many records are classified as Case Reports?

b)How many records are from Chilean institutions?

c)How many records are from titles that publish in Spanish?

11) Order the cancer de mama results by Times Cited. Open the paper titled ‘Breast cancers’s secondary prevention and associated factors’ Has this paper been added to a ReseacherID profile? If so, to which institution is the user affiliated to?

12) Copy the ReseacherID number and return to the SciELO search page. Now select the ‘All Data Bases’ search and paste the ReseacherID number into the search field. Select the search ‘Author Identifiers’ and run the search.

13) On the results page, run the Citation Report (right side of page).

a)What is the h index associated with these results?

b)What is the average cites per paper?
