Registration Dates:

  • On-line registration for PTA memberswill begin Tuesday,April 12, at noon.
  • Open registration will begin on Thursday, April 14 at noon.
  • Registration will close Sunday, April 17 at9pm.
  • **Late registrations will NOTbe accepted.**

How to Register:

  • Choose your class(es) from the Course Catalog.
  • Register on-line using the link on our PTA’swebsite (
  • Please do not use the registration system as a way to calculate class fees-it will result in an actual reservation and a spot in a class being marked as “taken”-Only use the reservation system to make actual reservations. If you need to calculate class amounts please do so with this catalog or contact the ASEP coordinator at
  • Please submit one on-line registration per child.
  • Payment may be made on-line through the registration site OR you may pay by check. Checks MUST be received within 2 days of registration or your child will be dropped from the class. Please make all checks payable to Creighton’s Corner PTA. Checks should be placed in an envelope addressed to PTA ASEP and given to your child’s teacher.Your child’s name must be in the “for” line of the check.
  • Registrations will be confirmed on a first come, first served basis.
  • IMPORTANT: When registering, please fill out if your child has alternate classes they would like to attend should the class you are registering for be cancelled due to low enrollment. i.e. Back up classes

Class Dates/Times:

  • The Winter session beginsMay 2 and will run for 6 weeks.
  • The dates for all classes are included in the class descriptions – Please pay close attention to these dates as we have a school holiday during the Spring ASEP session, along with Monday classes that have a later end date.
  • Classes are held from 2:45 to 4:00pm.
  • There will be NO make-up class available for Spring session.

Getting to the Activity:

  • Students will be dropped off in the gym at dismissal time where their ASEP class instructor will meet them. Once the entire class has arrived, the instructors will take their classes from the gym to their specified class location.
  • If there are changes in your child’s schedule or they are absent from school on a day for which they are signed up to attend an ASEP class, please notify (in addition to the school) so that we know that they will be missing their ASEP class that day.

Class Dismissal Procedures:

  • Students will be dismissed from their class locations.
  • When picking up your child, please come to the main lobby and you will be directed to the classroom to sign your child out.
  • An authorized adult must sign each child out of his/her class. Your child will only be released to a person listed on the registration form. If someone other than a parent or previously authorized person is picking up your child, the child must provide the instructor with a written note signed by the parent.

Late Pickup Policy:

Pick-up from the program is PROMPTLY at 4:00 pm. LATE PICK-UPS WILL BE CHARGED! If a child is picked up more than 5 minutes late, the parent will be charged a $1 PER MINUTE late fee. After 2 late pickups or if you are more than 20 minutes late, the PTA reserves the right to terminate your child’s participation in the program without a refund. In addition, failure to pay the late fee will result in the child not being able to participate in future After School Enrichment Program classes.

Refunds:

  • Please choose your classes carefully. There will be NO refunds for withdrawals, and credits will not be issued.
  • If a class must be cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a refund in the form of a check from the PTA.

Volunteers

We need parent volunteers to assist with the sign-in and sign-out process during the program. Responsibilities of the volunteer include:

  • Arriving at the school by 2:20 to assist with the sign-in process and remaining at school until all students have been picked up by their parent or guardian.
  • All participating students will be signed in by their instructor. If any student is missing, the volunteer will verify the location of the absent student with the front office staff.
  • If a student is not picked up on time, the volunteer will contact the child’s emergency contact.

If you volunteer for this responsibility your child(ren) will get priority placement in the class(es) of their choice AND you will receive one ASEP class free! You can choose to volunteer on any day of the week, regardless of what day your child attends ASEP class. Children are welcome to stay with you while you volunteer. Health Concerns

During the ASEP the school clinic is closed. We do not have access to the school nurse or any of your child’s health information. If your child is injured or becomes ill, your child’s instructor will contact you or the emergency contact designated by you on your registration form.

Class Descriptions

MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY

Course: Running Club

Grades: 3-5

Instructors: Miss Zitel & Miss Faszewski

Description:Running Club is open to boys and girls! We play games focusing on cooperation/teamwork, discuss important running form and practices, and spend time running at each session. All of this is done in preparation for a 5k at the end of the season. This season, we will be participating in the Rev3Glow Run Willowsford in Ashburn on the evening of Saturday, June 6th. The 5k is untimed and each participant receives a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt, a glow stick, and post-race treats. A healthy snack will be provided at the end of each session.

Running Club will meet on Mondays AND Wednesdays. If you are registering for this class, your child should attend both days.

MONDAY

Course: CCE Recorder Ensemble

Grades: 3-5

Instructor: Mrs. Valenti and Mr. Stine

Class Dates:5-2, 5-9, 5-16, 5-23, 6-6, 6-13 Description:Students enrolled this enrichment program will be introduced to playing recorder in an ensemble setting which includes unison and multiple parts as well as with/without recorded accompaniment tracks. Students will learn and play songs on their recorders appropriate for their ability level. Students will begin playing the notes B, A, G and move on to other pitches, fingerings, rhythms, and styles as selected by the instructors. Students may be asked to play additional instruments in conjunction with recorder to enhance the instrumentation of the ensemble and provide for a more diverse performance. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students registering for this ensemble must provide their own recorders. Other instruments added to ensemble as well as music and instruction handouts will be provided by the instructors. **NOTE: Recorder Ensemble will begin on Monday, May 2nd and rehearsals will be held every Monday through June 13th. Performance opportunities may arise and details will be provided and made available to parents as soon they are finalized.

Grades: K-2

Description:If you took the first Let’s Cook Books class, you will participate in new cooking experiences with different books. If you didn’t take the first class, you will still be able to enjoy this one!

The Let’s Cook Books program is for the lower primary grades. Students will use the culinary arts to bring literacy to life! Students will be creating snacks that go along with some of their favorite stories. We will be discussing how the food relates to the characters, setting, and themes of the books. Students will make personal connections to the stories and the food that the stories are developed around. They will make these connections through whole group discussions,partner sharing and small group discussions. Students will experience new ways to make reading fun! They will be learning new recipes to share with family and friends. Eachstudentwill bring home a Let’s Cook Books cookbook at the end of our class. This program is perfect for students who enjoy cooking and reading!

Description: Did you know that when you practice origami, you are activating thewhole brain? It has long been known that origami has many benefits like developing eye-hand co-ordination, sequencing skills, attention skills, patience, temporal spatial skills, andmath reasoning,butthe latest research on the brain also shows that language skills are improved by learning this extremely fun and rewarding art. This class will teach your child to fold paper into a variety of forms.Each child will also receive their own origami book. This class willchallenge studentswith problem solving skills and reward them with a whole lot of FUN!!!

Description: Students will get the chance to play different Physical Education games, Sports and other cooperative games that are great for their overall development. Depending on what the students interests are, we will be choosing several sports/games that they find the most appealing. Students will be one step closer to becoming a true team player after this class.

Description:Students will participate in innovative ways of exploring creativity through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). We will use recycled materials to build and create various structures based on their own design. Some of the activities include: baby life jackets, army man launchers, bridge building and more!

Description:Students will get the chance to play a variety of basketball games in order to increase their skills in the game. Basketball is going to be the main sport with thisafter schoolclub, but wewill get to choose from other sports and activities as well. Students will be one step closer to becoming a true team player after this class.

Course: Chess

Grades: K-5

Instructor: Silver Knights Chess

Description: Learn chess from a Silver Knights Chess coach! We teach more than 3,500 children each week. Class time is split between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies, depending on the children. Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. All grades and skills are welcome. Silver Knights will supply all the equipment during chess club. Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments.

Description: This course is for the student who has previously completed the “Beginning guitar” class in CCE’s Fall 2015 After-School Enrichment Program or have some prior guitar instruction experience. Students will review technique, music notation reading, and progress to the next level of guitar playing which will include: identifying and reading melodic notes on the staff, chord accompaniment, introduction to guitar “TAB” notation, and an introduction to recording, mixing, and notation software apps and applications. Students will be taught using a guitar method book, through musically enriched games, and through rote instruction. The goals of this class are to provide students with an understanding of the guitar chords, develop independent understanding of music notation, and promote proper playing technique in a manner that is age appropriate. Students who previously enrolled in the beginning guitar class in the fall of 2015 should already have an acceptable guitar for this class. If a student has prior guitar training and experience and would like to enroll in this class, they will need to have their own classical nylon string guitar to bring to the class sessions. Description:Mrs. Kime is offering a girl'sclubthat works on courage, character, social skills and has a whole lot of fun together! This laid backclubwill start off with an approved snack.Thegirlswill eat and chat about their week. Each class theclubwill do something together such as; create lots of fun crafts, paint, make friendship bracelets, origami/folding, scavenger hunts, play a sport, dance,listentomusic,play critical thinking games and much more! Course: Readers Theatre: Intro to Drama

Grades: 1-5

Description:Do your kids have a flare for drama? If so, join Mrs. Agacbuken and Mrs. Kroeze for a fabulous Reader's Theater class filled with fun stories, laughs, and plenty of opportunities to let your creative juices flow! This is also a wonderful opportunity for your child to improve upon their reading skills and presentation skills with two specialists at CCE. At the end of the session, parents/family will be invited to watch their kids perform their plays during the last class!

Description:Springtime is the perfect time to roll up your sleeves and get dirty in the CCE gardening club. We will be planting and tending plants, learning how to water and weed and provide all that a plant needs to survive. Love flowers? Love the idea of eating vegetables grown in your own garden? Then this class if for you!

Description:Join our science crew to investigate and hypothesize about the world around us! Come do experiments, make observations, and create with us! Some of the exciting things you can expect to do are seeing how high Rockets will launch, how high we can construct a building, making a eagles nest out of something secret, investigating animals prints and much more!! A snack will be provided.

Description:This course is for the student who has previously completed the “Beginning Piano Keyboard” class in CCE’s Fall 2015 or Winter 2016 After-School Enrichment Program. Students will review technique, music notation reading, and progress to the next level of piano keyboard which included: electronic keyboard functions/features, proper playing technique, rhythmic and melodic patterns, chords, and song forms. Students will be taught through musically enriched games, by rote, and continue to develop reading music notation. The student goals for this class are to provide students with an understanding of the piano keyboard, introduce and interpret music notation, and promote proper playing technique in a manner that is age appropriate and engaging. If a student has prior piano training and experience and would like to enroll in this class, they will need to have their own electronic piano keyboard to bring to the class sessions. Course: JewelryMakingClub

Grades: 2-5

Description: An opportunity to get your creative minds going! Beads and accessories of all colors and designs will be provided so wonderful pieces of jewelry can be created. Clay will be introduced in one or two classes as a component to creating jewelry. After the classes have ended, your student will have designed and created some beautiful pieces of jewelry. Some of what we will be making are necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pins, etc.

Course:Musical Genius Club

Grades: 2-5

Description: Talk about an hour of fun! Students will get to create or choose different beats from their favorite songs and make a tune of their own. You know from seeing us on the morning announcements, that this will be a blast for all of the music loving colts out there!
