Midway Baseball Accountability Guide1-6-15

PURPOSE: To provide a high standard of accountability for our baseball players that meets the expectations of MidwayHigh School and Midway ISD.

This Guide will:

  1. Fit hand in hand with all Midway ISD and MidwayHigh School policies and procedures.
  2. Provide discipline procedures for baseball players.
  3. Encourage your son to make good decisions.

The Midway ISD Extracurricular Discipline Management Plan outlines the behavior standards for Midway ISD students. It also outlines the Student Code of Conduct Discipline Guidelines for demerits and strikes. The Midway ISD policy will always be followed and the Baseball Accountability Guide will be used in addition to the MISD policy.

The following are actions/decisions that will result in discipline consequences that are fair and just. An accumulation of these could result in loss of playing time and/or suspension. Coaches will use their discretion in assigning punishment for the following:

  1. Tardiness5. Behavior on road trips
  2. Poor Attitude/Actions6. Throwing Equipment
  3. Inappropriate Language7. Talking back to an umpire
  4. Disrespect8. Missing practice/games

Demerits and ISS:

Demerits and ISS are issued by a student’s assistant principal. These can be issued at the discretion of the individual assistant principal based on each individual situation.

All consequences outlined in the Accountability Guide can be altered depending on the severity and frequency of the actions.

Any player who is assigned to ISS will run 3 triangles per day (all in under 65 seconds) for each day in ISS before suiting up for the next game.
1. A baseball player receiving a single demerit for any action will:

Run 6 triangles, each under 65 seconds before the next scheduled game. If this is not completed, the player will not suit up for the next scheduled game.

2. A baseball player receiving two demerits or an accumulating 2 separate demerits for any action will:

  1. Run 9 triangles, each under 65 seconds (3 per day for 3 days)
  2. Possible one game suspension – left to the discretion of the coach and depending on the severity of the offense

3. A baseball player receiving three demerits or accumulating three demerits for any action will:

  1. Receive an athletic “strike” per MISD policy
  2. Miss 10% of the games in a season (3 games) per MISD “strike” policy
  3. Run 12 triangles, each under 65 seconds (4 per day for 3 days)
  4. Additional game suspension at coach’s discretion

4. If a player has received a strike and receives additional demerits the Extracurricular Discipline Management Plan will be followed to determine the next step.

Illegal Activity

As stated in the Midway ISD Extracurricular Discipline Management Plan, athletes are prohibited in engaging in illegal activity. If a baseball player has been proven to be involved in illegal activity of any kind, the ECDMP will be followed and additionally there will be:

  1. Suspension of additional games at the coach’s discretion
  2. Additional running at the coach’s discretion
  3. Community Service Hours – number to be determined at the coach’s discretion
  4. Possible removal from the baseball program at the coach’s discretion

Players will not be allowed to suit up for games until all consequences have been completed (running, community service hours, etc)
