  1. ALL Henrico Reads
  • Committee members and librarians received the novel and a plush last week
  • Each school should be setting up events to promote the reading
  • I will call a virtual meeting next month to see how the word is being spread to your school communities (November 7 or 8)
  • Each school will be expected to bring a bus of students who have read the work to the celebration on April 5, 2012 at Glen Allen High School at 10 a.m.
  1. Spelling Bee (contact: Judy Farmer)
  • Each school has been enrolled and payments are going out
  • Please keep the emails from Scripps as they will include information on how to access enrollment benefits.
  • After you have received the email indicating your school has been enrolled then you may access the Scripps website to obtain information and materials to use in your school’s spelling bee.
  • Detailed information on this year’s Spelling Bee will be sent to you on the Pony. Please hold this information and materials for a webinar to be held in November (date to be announced).

HCPS 2012 Spelling Bee – Monday, January 23, 2012
Make-up date should there be inclement weather – Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Place: Hungary Creek Middle School
Time: 7:00 p.m.

  1. Forensics
  • I need the name of the sponsor at your school
  • We are creating a forensics committee
  • 2 people from each school
  • Will attend meet (usually in the evening sometime in the spring) and judge (2-3 judges per room)
  • Will receive judging guidelines and mini-training on how to score
  • Will receive staff development points
  • Looking to do 3 categories split by grade level only
  1. Bridge
  2. Letters and curriculum calendars will be developed in December
  3. Counselors would like for bridge teachers to attend school curriculum fairs
  4. A permission form will go out with recommendations—those forms will be returned to assigned bridge teachers
  5. Only current Henrico students eligible to move to advanced (no exceptions)
