Middle School Athletic/Co-curricular Program Descriptions

Most MS programs meet M-Th; Practices run from 2:30-3:30/4pm

------FALL SEASON------

COED SOCCER (A & B Teams)

This competitive athletic program is open to all interested soccer players (including beginners). Both A (advanced) and B (beginner) teams are offered. Athletes are placed according to skill level.

  • Season: Fall
  • Begins: First full week of September
  • Ends: Last week of October
  • Practice Times:2:30-4pm M-Th
  • Games: Most games will start between 3:30/4:00 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (one game per team per week)
  • Coaches: 4

Participants provide their own: cleats, shin pads, socks (Blue/White).

GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY

Girls of all skill levels are encouraged to join and learn the sport.

  • Season: Fall
  • Begins: First full week of September
  • Ends: Last week of October
  • Practice Times:2:30-4pm M-Th
  • Games: Most games will start between 3:30/4:00 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (one game per week)
  • Coaches: 2

Participants provide their own: cleats, protective eyewear, mouth guard, shin guards, socks and stick.

------NON-COMPETITIVE OFFERINGS ------RECREATIONAL SAILING
Students learn the basics of sailing, and more advanced sailors will refine their sailing skills. Space is limited and students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Limited to:12 Sailors

Participants provide their own: wet suits/dry suits

Program participation based upon seniority if high sign-up numbers (8th, then 7th, then 6th)

------WINTER SEASON------BOYS BASKETBALL

This competitive athletic program is open to all interested basketball players (including beginners). Depending upon numbers, an A (advanced) and B (beginner) team are offered. Athletes are placed according to skill level.

  • Begins: Second week of November
  • Ends: First week of March
  • Practice Times:2:30-3:30pm M-Th
  • Games: Most games will start between 3:30/4:30 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (one game per team per week)
  • Coaches: 2

Participants provide their own: proper footwear,and socks (Blue/White).

------NON-COMPETITIVE OFFERINGS ------DECKHANDS THEATER COMPANY, JUNIOR
Students in the Middle School are invited to participate in this co-curricular offering as part of our Residency with Trinity Repertory Company. A wide variety of scenes, monologues, as well as both small and large group musical numbers will be rehearsed in a workshop formatand performed prior to spring break.

RECREATION & ROBOTICS/ARTS
Winter Recreation & Robotics has historically been a big hit with MS students. To keep the program interesting, the coaches are always adding new activities.The program focuses on engaging students in a variety of indoor and outdoor games and activities to keep them fit and active during the winter months including basic robotic skills, snowboarding/skiing at Yawgoo Valley,snow tubing, bowling, bombardment, dodge ball, kickball and walking in Goddard Park.

------SPRING SEASON------BOYS LACROSSE

This competitive athletic program is open to all interested lacrosse players (including beginners). Depending upon numbers, an A (advanced) and B (beginner) teams are offered. Athletes are placed according to skill level.

  • Begins: First day after spring break (first week of April)
  • Ends: Third week of May
  • Practice Times:2:30-4pm M-Th
  • Games: Most games will start between 3:30/4:00 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (one game per week)
  • Coaches: 2

Participants provide their own: cleats, proper protective equipment (helmets provided upon request if available),sticks, and socks.

GIRLS LACROSSE

This competitive athletic program is open to all interested lacrosse players (including beginners). Depending upon numbers, an A (advanced) and B (beginner) teams are offered. Athletes are placed according to skill level.

  • Ends: Third week of May
  • Practice Times:2:30-4pm M-Th

COED TENNIS

Beginner and advanced tennis players are welcome to compete in this competitive athletic program. Space is limited due to court space and travel arrangements. Teams compete in doubles matches only.

  • Season: Spring
  • Begins: First day after spring break (first week of April)
  • Ends: Third week of May
  • Practice Times:2:30-3:30pm M-Th
  • Matches: Most matches will start between 3:30/4:00 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (one game per week)
  • Limited to: 14 players
  • Coaches: 2

Participants provide their own: proper footwear, racket, shorts or skirt (White) and socks (Blue/White).

Program participation based upon seniority if high sign-up numbers (8th, then 7th, then 6th).

------NON-COMPETITIVE OFFERINGS ------LIFE FITNESS
The emphasis of this program is on the development of skills and interest in fitness and recreational activities that can be used over a lifetime. Activities include walking, volleyball, tennis, badminton, orienteering, biking and kayaking. The instructors will notify participants in advance when specific equipment is required.
