Background to the Post

The Technical Academy provides training and assessment for apprenticeships, work placed assessments, full and part time engineering courses from levels 1 to 3 and Apprenticeships at the college’s Leamington Spa, Moreton Morrell and Rugby Centres.

As part of the development of the full time offer at Warwickshire College and with a specific focus on functional skills in English and Maths; we are looking to recruit a lecturer to deliver English and Maths from Entry level to Level 2. In addition, there may be a requirement to teach skills related to gaining employment, such as CV writing, employability skills etc. We would also consider a job share for this role for candidates who are able to deliver either English or Maths.

Reporting to

The person appointed will report to the Technical Academy Manager on a day to day basis and work alongside the Academy staff.

Main Tasks

A.  Teaching

The person appointed will be able to contribute to the teaching programme approximately 14 hours per week (to a maximum of 497 per annum). In order to engage the students in learning, the curriculum will be taught in an experiential and enterprising way, ensuring retention and enabling student success on the courses.

B.  Preparation and Assessment

The person appointed will develop and produce teaching materials as required to support the delivery of the curriculum. He/she will undertake assessment as required by the relevant scheme and keep accurate records.

C.  Administration

The person appointed will undertake administrative tasks relating to the programme(s) that they teach on and College requirements, under the guidance of the Academy Manager.

D.  Quality Systems

The postholder will undertake Internal Verification as required by the line manager. The College has a lesson observation process and all lecturers will have an observed lesson each academic year.

E.  Health and Safety

To ensure a safe working environment for colleagues, students and visitors in line with the HASAW Act and the College Health and Safety Policy.

F.  Safeguarding

Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults for whom you are responsible and whom you come into contact with.

Hours of work

The postholder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities, normally 22.2 hours per week (pro rata) The annual teaching hours are as described under (A) of this job description.

Place of work

The principal place of work will be the Leamington Spa Campus. However, the postholder may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises at which we may provide services.

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a disclosure and barring service check, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification.

Annual Leave

The holiday entitlement is 35 days pro rata per annum plus 12 statutory days pro rata and dependent on working pattern.
