Course Syllabus

2005-2006

Course Description: Students will learn many features of the Internet and improve their word processing skills. Using Microsoft Office software, this course will include keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software. The student can use these skills for their personal use and for assignments required in other classes. MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialization) Certification is available for students.

Course Goal:To prepare each student to take the MOUS Core Certification exam in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Objectives:

Microsoft Word (Word Processing Software)

Students will learn how to:

  • Create a document
  • Change the font and font size
  • Save and print a document
  • Use the spell check
  • Format paragraphs and characters
  • Insert and resize clipart
  • Use the Help Menu
  • Change margin settings, adjust line spacing, create headers with page numbers and indent paragraphs
  • Use AutoCorrect
  • Find and replace text and copy and paste text
  • Navigate through a hyperlink

Microsoft Excel (Spreadsheet Software)

Students will learn how to:

  • Create, save and exit a worksheet
  • Use formulas, format, copy and print
  • Use functions, edit and print options
  • Perform additional formatting and editing; protecting and hiding data
  • Create a chart
  • Change the format of numbers and characters in a cell
  • Add conditional formatting to a range of cells
  • Display and print the formulas version of the worksheet

Microsoft Access (Database Software)

Students will learn how to:

  • Create a database form and enter data
  • Create tables and enter data into those tables
  • Edit and print a table
  • Search and sort through a database
  • Perform queries and create reports

Microsoft PowerPoint (Presentation Software)

Students will learn how to:

  • Create, save and print a presentation
  • Enhance slides and work with text and objects
  • Present computer slide shows

Integrated Projects:

Students will learn how to:

  • Copy and paste a database report to a word processing document
  • Copy and paste database information to a spreadsheet to create charts
  • Copy and paste Microsoft Office applications within each other
