Microsoft Office 365

INSTRUCTIONS FORPC USERS:

The university will be implementing Microsoft Office 365 to all faculty and staff at Southern Miss in the next couple of weeks. It is very important for you to update your Microsoft Office to 2010SP2 or /2013, or Office for Mac 2011 or higher so you will be able to access your email in Microsoft Office 365. Stay tuned for your specific go live date.

Microsoft Office 365provides faculty and staff with a 50GB mailbox and 1TB of file storage in OneDrive. In addition to having access to web versions, Faculty and Staff will be able to download Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus applications on up to 5 devices (PC, Mac, and/or mobile devices -Android or iOS). These applications include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote*, Access*, Publisher*, and Lync.

*NOTE: Windows PC client programs and/or features only. Cannot be used across devices

How to determine your version of Microsoft Office

  1. Open any Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  2. Click onHELP,thenABOUT MICROSOFT OFFICE.

OR

  1. Open any Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  2. Click onFILEandthenHELP or ACCOUNT.
  3. Verify your version is Outlook 2010 SP2, version 14.0.7015.1000 (or greater). If not go to ACTION TO TAKE Section.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FORMAC USERS:

Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 is no longer supported, is not compatible with Office 365, and will not function once your email is migrated to Office 365. Therefore,if youare using Outlook 2008, youwill need to upgrade to Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. To verify what version of Office you are using on your Mac, use the following instructions:

How to check your Mac Office Version and Updates

Microsoft regularly offers updates for its Office for Mac program suite. As of Wednesday, October 15, 2014, the most recent update brings Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 to version 14.4.6. To check whether you have the most recent edition of Microsoft Office installed, you can check your current installation's version number from your Mac's application list by doing the following:

MAC Prerequisites

Before you install the Office for Mac 2011 14.4.6 update, make sure that you have Office for Mac 2011 14.1.0 or a later version installed on your computer. Also, make sure that the computer is running Mac OS X v10.5.8 or a later version of the Mac OS X operating system.

To verify that the computer meets this prerequisite, click About This Mac on the Apple menu.

To verify that Office for Mac 2011 14.1.0 is installed on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. On the Go menu, click Applications.
  2. Open the Microsoft Office 2011 folder, and then start any Office application. (For example, start Microsoft Word).
  3. On the application menu, click About <application>.
  4. In the About <application> dialog box, note the version number that is displayed. The number should be 14.1.0 or a later version. If not go to ACTION TO TAKE Section.

ACTION TO TAKE:

If you see that you are using Microsoft Office 2010 SP1, 2007, 2003 or older, OR Office for Mac 2008 or older, you will need to update your software as soon as possible. Microsoft Officecan be updated via our software download site*:

*NOTE: You must be ON Campus to do this download to your work computer.

Please note, if you are a vendor at Southern Miss you will need to follow your company’s protocol for upgrade.
