Ethel “Tootie” Carew, mother of Hilbert Middle School teacher Mr. Dan Carew, passionately taught second grade students for seventeen years. During her career and throughout her life, she instilled a love of learning with whomever she met. Tootie was a thoughtful, compassionate, and kind person who had a flair for writing poetry and short stories. Her creativity was endless and her dedication to her family, friends, and students was unmatched. Mr. Carew would like to continue to celebrate his mother’s life by offering a $100.00 scholarship in her memory.

The student selected will be announced at the Academic Awards Banquet in May. A check will be sent to the recipient after the completion of the fall semester and after the Hilbert High School Student Services Office has received the following two documents: 1.) a report card from the post-secondary school that proves the student took at least 12 credits and earned at least a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale; 2.) proof of registration as a full-time student for the spring semester.
