V.CURRICULUM & EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

Courses

  • Developed web page for the large introduction to psychology (PSYC 201) course. On this website, course materials are posted, as well as links to material that supplements lectures and volunteer activities related to psychology. This website has been important in maintaining communication with the 200+ students who take the class each semester.

Workshops

  • Developed a workshop to teach graduate students how to use item response theory. In this 2-day workshop, students (and several faculty) have learned basic statistical concepts as well as learning how to run software.

Other

  • Coordinated bi-weekly brown-bag research forums in which graduate students, faculty, and visiting faculty presented findings from research projects.

VI.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Attended the 1st annual BGSU full day teaching conference for pre-tenured faculty.
  • Attended a workshop on teaching large lecture courses led by Dan Madigan for Center for Teaching and Learning Effectiveness (1998).
  • Attended the following academic conferences: American Educational Research Association (1997), Association of Testing Professionals (2001), Psychometric Society (1998), Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (1994-2001), Society for Judgment and Decision Making Research (1998), as well as an American Psychology Association-sponsored conference on personality psychology and industrial-organizational psychology (1999).

VII.ACADEMIC ADVISING

1996Approximately 15 undergraduate advisees, 2 graduate student advisees

1997Approximately 20 undergraduate advisees, 3 graduate student advisees

1998Approximately 20 undergraduate advisees, 3 graduate student advisees

1999Approximately 20 undergraduate advisees, 4 graduate student advisees

2000Approximately 20 undergraduate advisees, 5 graduate student advisees

2001Approximately 15 undergraduate advisees, 6 graduate student advisees

In addition to these formal advising roles, I also informally advise graduate students and faculty on statistical analysis and research design.

VIII.RESEARCH INTERESTS

My main research area is applying item response theory methodology for solving work-related problems. Specifically I am interested in determining how motivation, item wording, and contextual factors influence personality test responses and test validity.
