MICHAEL A DAUBE CHARITABLE TRUST

  1. Background: The Michael A Daube charitable trust, registered in Cuttack, Orissa (Regn No-9302 dated 20 Aug 1997) situated on the bank of river Mahanadi in Cuttack district, Orissa serves the rural communities in Niali block. This trust is also registered under the foreign contribution regulation Act (FCRA No-104860099 dated 03 Jan 2001). The MADC Trust runs a Children’s School and also a Hospital in village Juanga with an Operating Theatre, Dental Centre and Women’s Centre.
  1. Brief Objective of Organization:- In spite of total literacy campaigning call given by the Government during 1991-1992 and wide spread coverage in almost all villages the achievement rate could not reach the desired level. There are places where the children do not have access to education because the place has no educational facilities. Even in some of the places the adult people are very simple but mostly illiterate and they do not know how to read and write. As a result they face problems in day-to-day life. After the 1999 cyclone ripped through the area, Most of the schools were destroyed and the students were dispersed. During this critical period the Trust with the help of Asha for Education and others built this school to help sustain education in the area.
  1. Infrastructure: - The school was divided into two parts. Primary section, which starts from KG-1 To Std –5th and the secondarysection, which starts from Std-6th to Std-10th.

Primary Section: - This section posses a 1500 square feet building with 3 rooms. This year with the help from Eduardo bores Saladich of Spain, first floor to this building was constructed with 3 more rooms at a cost of Rs 253309.15.

Secondary Section: - The secondary section posse’s ½ acre of land. This year with the support from ASHA WAH 2004 1 acre of land was added to the existing land at a cost of Rs 200331.00. Further with the help from ASHA WAH 2004 a double stored 4 rooms building of 3800 Sq Ft was constructed at a cost of Rs 713209.10. Again with the help from Eduardo Bores and CITTA Spain a 4 rooms building extension was given to the existing one at a cost of Rs 326602.28, making a total of 8 rooms for the secondary section.

School Bus: - ASHA WAH 2004 generously provided funds for a mini Bus for the school, to fetch girl students from far away villages. Using this fund a Mini Bus was purchased for the school at a cost of Rs 493493.00.This gesture from ASHA will increase the number of girl students in the school, enhancing the boys to girls ratio.

There were a total number of 303 Students; out of them 192 are boys and 111

are girls. 274 students are from general caste where as 29 students are from

Scheduled caste. 12 students left the school discontinuing study.

Health Camps:- Health Camps are conducted at regular intervals in the school by MADC Trust hospital. Free medicines and vitamins are distributed among the students.

Celebrations:- Important national days and festivals like Independence day, Republic Day, Teacher’s day, Children’s day, Lord Ganesh puja and Goddess Saraswati puja is being celebrated in the school. On these auspicious occasions there are competitions among the students on Debate, Quiz, Song, Music and Dance etc. The winners are felicited.

Annual Sports Meet:- Physical education is an integral part of total education. To promote the sporting quality of the students, the school celebrates its annual sports meet in the month of May.Major games such as Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, volley ball, Foot ball, cricket, Run, Jump, Skipping etc are organized.

Picnic:- Every year the school organizes picnics to the different places having historical back grounds. This year with the funds provided by Sonia Ba Forne of Spain, a picnic was arranged to sun templeKonark and the Konark beach.

Staff Position:- 19 staffs including 12 teachers are working in the school to provide education as well as proper guidance to the students..
