2018 MGA Challenge Cup Rules

1.  Flighted qualifying as follows:

a.  Flights as follow:

a.  1st Flight 0 – 5.9 6 players

b.  2nd Flight 6.0 – 9.9 8 players

c.  3rd Flight 10.0 – 14.9 8 players

d.  4th Flight 15.0 – 19.9 4 players

e.  5th Flight 20.0 + 4 players

b.  2 Captains Picks

c.  Handicap flight is based on a players Handicap Index as of Feb 1, 2018.

d.  Only SSHCC MGA Members are eligible and they must qualify with minimum 3 rounds played at SSHCC that will be averaged to determine you qualifying score. You can chose to qualify more than 3 times in which case we will take the average of your lowest 3 scores.

e.  All qualifying rounds must be completed between Feb 10, 2018 and Sept 3, 2018

1) A minimum of three MGA members with at least one or more qualifying or

2) A club professional or MGA board member playing in the qualifying round or

3) Rounds played in designated MGA sponsored event or club sponsored event which are individual medal play format.

4) There will be a separate Challenge Cup scorecard that must be used to qualify. These will be assigned by a member of the Pro Shop prior to your round. Your FULL NAME must be printed on the scorecard along with a signature from the Pro Shop. Place ONLY your GROSS score on each hole. Only the qualifier’s name will be placed on this card. Scores received that are not on the official Challenge Cup scorecard or have additional names will not be counted for scoring.

5) Handicap Index of 15.0 or higher may qualify from the White Tees

6) Handicap Index of 14.9 or lower will qualify from the Blue Tees

7) To ensure proper posting, please make sure that your name and scores are legible.

f.  In addition to the qualifying, the 2 lowest qualifying scores shall be the captains of each team.

g.  For a total of 32 players, 16 players per team.

2.  Play will be over 2 days as follows:

a.  Day 1, format will be 2-man teams playing 18 holes of alternate shot and 18 holes of best ball.

b.  Day 2, format will be 18 holes of match play.

c.  Points will be awarded as follows: +1 point for each win, +1/2 point for each halved (tied) match.

d.  The Captains will determine which flights play from the White Tees during play.

3.  Qualifying will run from Feb 10th and end on Sept 3rd. The event will take place October 5-7, 2018.

4.  The event will kick off with a player’s only dinner on Friday night, with play on Saturday and Sunday to include meals designated by the MGA board.

5.  The cost of each qualifying round shall be $20 for the first qualifying round and $5 for each additional qualifying round played. Money from MGA qualifying rounds shall be used exclusively toward the cost of the event. Based on previous experience, the estimated cost per player will be $100 to $200 including shirts, hats, dinner, lunch and beverages and other assorted golf stuff.

6.  Rules governing play shall be USGA golf rules for all events, including match play.

7.  Local rules shall apply to each course played. Currently the following local rules exist:

a. In the case of inclement weather, rounds will be determined by agreement of the Captains to play lift, clean and place in your own fairway per USGA rule. Your own fairway is the fairway for the hole you are currently playing.

b. On Harbour #8 the shrubs below the tree in front of the right fairway bunker are played as ground under repair. Thus if your ball lands in those shrubs only you may drop outside the shrubs with no penalty and no nearer the hole.

c. On all holes if your ball comes to rest in a lateral sunken drainage line area in your own fairway that area shall be treated as ground under repair and you may drop within one club length of your nearest point of relief no nearer the hole.

8.  All rules shall be interpreted by one or more of the Club’s PGA of America Class A Professionals, and their interpretation(s) shall be final.

9.  Each member that posts three qualifying scores shall be awarded 15 points toward the year end shoot-out points standings. Members who qualify will be awarded an additional 10 points toward the shoot-out. Members of the winning team will get an additional 10 points towards the year end shoot out.

10.  I have read and understand the By-Laws of the MGA as well as the Rules of the Competition Committee. By my participation in the MGA, I indicate my agreement to abide by any decision of the MGA Board and Competition Committee.
