CANCER NURSING CONFERENCE

Continuing Education

This activity has been be submitted to the Oncology Nursing Society for approval to award contact hours. ONS is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s COA.

Targeted Audience

Program intended for Oncology Nurses from all practice settings interested in innovative oncology care. The purpose of the conference is to update nurses caring for oncology clients on clinical issues and current trends in cancer Practice.

Objectives

Identify Hodgkin’s lymphoma presentation & Discuss treatment of Hodgkin’s disease; initial and subsequent therapies and future trends in treatment.

Identify patients appropriate for genetics referral Define sporadic and hereditary cancer, as well as some common genes.

List three differences between hospice and palliative care & List three steps to facilitate a courageous conversation.

Describe changes taking place in the pain management of oncology patients & Identify new pain management treatment strategies utilized in the acute and chronic pain management of oncologic patients.

Define lymphedema, Identify causes of lymphedemaDiscuss treatment.

Define targeted therapy, List side effects & Discuss management of toxicities of targeted therapies.

From the North: Follow I-75 South toward Detroit. Take Exit 75 toward Square Lake Road. Turn Right onto Woodward Avenue north. Make U-turn on Woodward Avenue south. Take Woodward Avenue south to 14 Mile Road (6.1 miles). Make right onto 14 Mile Road. Continue to follow 14 Mile Road east to Southfield Road (1.2 miles).
