Summer 2003 News Letter

Message from the Hon. Secretary

The immediate news is very sad in that we have just learned of the tragic and untimely death of Dai Thomas, well known as 'Tot' in Tenby. He had a fit and drowned whilst swimming near Goscar rock off Tenby North Beach on Tuesday 12th August. Dai was a life-long Redwing sailor, past Redwing owner and past Association Treasurer. He was at his best on the trapeze and afterwards telling us all about it in the bar! Dai Thomas will be sorely missed.
Donations are to be made in his memory to the RNLI
Final preparations are now in hand for the annual Redwing Championships, this year at Fishguard Bay Yacht Club. If anyone is desperately in need of accommodation at short notice please give Dave Knowler at Fishguard a ring on 01348 874866 or mobile 07967 133885
Travel safely and see you there!

National Championships 2003 build-up

Looe Fleet

Our intrepid Looe correspondent has kindly reported that there have been ten boats out regularly for club races and that there should be a good Looe contingent making the trip to Fishguard.
Hopefully, Geoff and Chris Godbolt (R183), Richard and Hannah Vasey (R166), Cecil DuValle and Francis Marshal in R246, Ben and John Crabb (R245), Roger H. and Dominic (R243) and Colin Crabb and Des H. (R241) returning from Tenerife in time and sailing together again. In addition Bud Coote is returning from Spain to sail with Dave Darlington to defend their title in R242. However it is rumoured that 'Clifford' is still in the shed and Dave has indicated that he intends to give her a coat of varnish before she is deemed fit for the water this summer - talk about cutting it fine!
There may be more boats and perhaps a 'mystery' entry from Looe! If you have not entered yet don't worry, nor have I, as yet! It's not too late, just get your boat and perhaps a suitable crew up to Fishguard by Sunday morning 24th August and you will not miss a thing!

Tenby

Rolly and Jane (R244), Mike and Deanna (R195) and Helen and Dave (R221) are all confirmed and hopefully Alex will have 'Rossie' finished in time (He was a blur of sandpaper and varnish brush when they last looked in the shed!) R228 may even get entered as well if you promise to be kind to us!

Rest of the World

Our spies have informed us that Mike Hick and Frank Goodwin are bringing their 'Flotsam' (R174) up to Fishguard to join in the fun and it is hoped that a few more may be encouraged: - R211, R161, R206, R155, R134 to 'name' but a few; You know who you are and we know you're out there, so come and join in! A full race programme will be provided but we are reliably informed that there will be one race on each day except Monday, when there will be two, and Wednesday which is the lay (going to Bessie's bar) day! The AGM will be held during the week at FBYC the date and time is to be decided and depends on the availability of certain key personnel.
