BALLOT PAPERDRAW

The procedure for drawing ballot paper positions is set by section 86 and Schedule 2 ofthe

Electoral Act1907.

Slipswithcandidatenameswillbeplacedintheseidenticalspheres,whichwillbeplacedinthisballot box, shaken and rotated, then selected at random, thereby determining the orderofcandidatesontheballotpaper.Anybodypresentwillbeabletoshakeandrotatetheballotboxprior to the draw if theywish.

A defect during the draw process may result in it in being restarted from thebeginning.

EARLY VOTING AND MOBILEPOLLING

Early voting (by post) is due to commence on the 20th of February and mobile pollingwillcommence at special institutions and hospitals in the district from the 23rd of February. I have alistcontaining mobile polling places to provide to you. Please note that how to vote material mayeitherbeleftatthegeneralofficeofeachinstitutionorcarriedbyscrutineersduringpollingforissueatthe request ofelectors.

Checking of declarations on early votes will commence from Wednesday, 6th of March.Anticipatedprocessing times will be available closer to theday.

SCRUTINEERS AND PARTYWORKERS

Candidatesmayappointscrutineerstorepresentthematpollingplacesduringpollingdayandatthescrutinyandcountofvotesateachplacewherethescrutinyandcountareconducted.Everyscrutineer must complete a declaration in the presence of the Returning Officer or PollingPlaceManager. A form is available from me or a Polling Place Manager and was included intheCandidates Pack. A Guide for Scrutineers is alsoavailable.

Partyworkerscanassistbyhandingouthowtovotecardsandotherproperlyauthorisedprintedinformation to electors but not within six metres of the entrance to any polling place. Partyworkersare to remove or cover any t-shirts or badges before entering any polling place to cast theirvote.

Candidatesarenolongerprohibitedfromsolicitingthevotesofelectorsonpollingday,sotheymay hand out how to vote cards on the day if theywish.

ADVERTISING

All printed material is to have the name and address of the person authorising the material andthename and business address of the printer. Refer to A Guide for Candidates for furtherinformation.

COUNTING

Legislative Assembly votes are counted as prescribed by section 144 of the Act, underapreferential vote system. The Polling Place Manager will make the final decision on the formalityofall ballot papers on thenight.

The full distribution of preferences will be conducted following the processing of the receipt offinalearly votes. This is likely to be conducted from the Saturday following pollingday.

On the Sunday or Monday following polling day I will be conducting a Fresh Scrutiny ofLegislativeAssembly ordinary ballot papers to confirm that the figures provided by Polling Place Managersonelection night are inorder.
