Dear participating families,

We have completed the leaf blower roster for 2015. Please review the list below and complete the session at a suitable time during the week allocated.

Please confirm with the Meruka coordinators which day and time you are planning to clean the yard so they can charge the blower and get it ready for you.

For details on how to complete the cleaning please refer to the instruction sheet attached.

Kind regards,

The Meruka Committee

Suggested instructions on how to undertake the leaf blower maintenance job at Meruka

• This is quite a pleasant job – it takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. You’ll find that you will be quite slow the first time you do it, but much faster thereafter!

• It needs to be completed before about 9am in the morning, or after 4.30pm in the afternoon – when there aren’t kids outside. The latest you can start is about 5.45pm – so that the staff can lock up at 6.30pm. The staff at Meruka appreciate a phone call before you turn up – so that they can make sure that the kids are inside when you arrive. You can undertake the job on any day of the week that you have been rostered, but it will help even out the schedule if you approximately keep to your nominated day.

• You don’t need to bring anything – if you announce to one of the Meruka staff that you are on blower duty, they will get the cordless blower and earmuffs for you. However, if you have your own petrol blower to bring along, please do, as these are more powerful than the cordless varieties. Unfortunately Meruka can’t purchase a petrol blower of its own, as petrol can’t be stored onsite.

• Before starting, it’s a good idea to clear any toys or equipment away from where you are going to need to blow. The plastic slides in the baby’s area usually need to be shifted, and it’s best if the covers are on the sandpits.

• Once you have setup Ghostbusters-style with your blower, and have cranked it up to maximum, it’s usually easiest to start at the top rubber asphalt area - doing a loop. When this is completed, blowing the babies area (from the fence first) is recommended, then working across the toddler’s/kinder kids paved area. If you can, please also blow the entry paving area and deck near the front door.

• You don’t need to be a perfectionist in clearing sand, but please try and remove the larger leaves and twigs.

• When you’re finished, please return equipment and advise staff that you’re done. They will usually encourage you to fill out a ‘maintenance log’ – this is a signoff sheet found above the mail slot (near the front door) in which you state your family name and date. Kylie will collate these so that you receive your maintenance levy back at the end of the year.

• If you need to change your session, or have any questions, please contact Henning Kemmer (). Thanks for giving up your time to cleaning up the yard for the kids – it is very much appreciated!
