44. John McKee Scholarship

Eligibility:

·  under age 19 years on March 1, 2014

·  planning to attend a four-year college full-time or a vocational school

·  fatherless (i.e., whose biological or adoptive father is actually dead or has been declared missing by a competent authority) of any race; “missing” may also include permanently absent, dysfunctional, and not functioning as a father to the applicant

·  in need of financial assistance

·  resident of the five-county Philadelphia area.

·  SAT and /or ACT scores are sent directly from the Testing Agency. The scholarship code is 0069.

·  maximum four year college award is $21,500 and vocational school award is $1,000 per year.

45. Thiel College Academic Scholarship – up to 5 full tuition scholarships will be

offered. Students must meet the minimum scholarships requirements of combined

SAT critical reading and math score of 900 or ACT composite score of 19 and a 3.0

cumulative GPA are eligible to compete. Competition includes an essay and interview.

·  Deadline: January 5, 2014 for application and acceptance for January dates (25th & 26th)

·  Deadline: January 12, 2014 for application and acceptance for February dates

(1st & 2nd)

46. Philadelphia City Scholarship Program – awards 50 college scholarships each year.

Requirements include:

·  student and parent are residents of Philadelphia

·  minimum GPA of 3.0

·  SAT scores,

·  have filed the 2014-2015 FAFSA form ( form can not be filed until January 1, 2014

·  plan to apply to one of the eligible schools in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, or Montgomery counties in PA

47. Valley Forge Military – Rep. John Taylor (R-Philadelphia) is currently seeking

student applicants from the 177th District to participation in the Valley Forge

Military College Legislative Appointment Initiative.

Requirements:

·  Minimum SAT score of $1,000 or a 21 on the ACT

·  GPA of 2.5

·  Involvement in sports or other extracurricular activities

·  Demonstrate leadership potential and be service-oriented

48. Drexel University Liberty Scholarship – provides 50 renewable scholarships

covering 100 percent of tuition and fees.

Requirements:

·  Low-income students who graduated from a school within Philadelphia city limits

·  Must be accepted at Drexel

49. The David Nelson, Jr. Memorial Fund – annually award a $1,000 scholarship to a

deserving child of a deceased donor parent or guardian

Application Criteria:

·  Reside in Eastern PA, Southern New Jersey or Delaware covered by the Gift of Life Donor Program

·  Provide a brief statement summarizing academic ambitions and extracurricular and/or volunteer activities

·  Provide 2 letters of reference from a non-relative

·  A copy of the current transcript

50. AFS Scholarship - award of $500 for an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in

answer to the following question:

When you look back on your life in 30 yeas, what would it take for you to consider

your life successful? What people, things and accomplishments do you need?

Submit the essay to: . There is no application for this

award. Be sure to include your full name, school’s name, and your plans for next year.

51. The Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship – provides scholarships of $2,000,

$5,000, $8,500 or $12,000

Criteria:

·  Academic performance

·  Community service

·  Leadership

·  Essay

52. The Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship – students attending a

school or living in a community that are home to a Simon property are eligible to

apply. Go to for a list of Simon properties.

53. Viriva community Credit Union Scholarships – provides 2 $1,000 scholarships

Criteria:

·  Must belong to Viriva Credit Union or join before March 5, 2014

·  GPA of 2.5

·  Completed application form

·  Typed essay of a minimum of 1500 words or video file

·  Videos must not exceed 2 minutes in length (more details in Guidance Center)

·  Topics for the essay or video are available in the Guidance Center

Manor College is still accepting applications. They have rolling admissions, but the Veterinary Technology and Dental Hygiene programs have a February 1st deadline.

Orleans Technical Institute offers two programs:

1. Building Trades – learn more by calling 215-728-4700 and apply online at

www.orleanstech.edu . Financial aid is available for those who qualify.

2. Associate in Specialized Business degree program in Court Reporting – Half-

tuition scholarships are award based on:

·  Academic achievement

·  Attendance

·  Personal essay stating why you should be considered for a scholarship

·  3 letters of recommendation: 2 from school officials & 1 from an employer or a family member

·  Results of the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test, which is taken at the Orleans Institute
