ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME

The purpose of the Athletics Hall of Fame is to recognize achievements of persons who have made a significant contribution to the athletic program at Mercy High School, or who have distinguished themselves at the collegiate or professional level after participating in athletics at Mercy. Nominees are divided in to three categories; Athlete/Team, Coach, and Contributor. These divisions are for the sole purpose of assisting those making nominations to understand the kind of information that is required on the nomination form.

Criteria which should be considered

ATHLETE/TEAM:

·  Athlete – A nominee must have attended Mercy, or graduated from Mercy, a minimum of five years before becoming eligible for consideration; attended Mercy a minimum of three school years; participated in a minimum of two varsity seasons; exemplified the highest standard of athletic achievement by leading her team to a championship at the league, section, or state levels; received extraordinary individual honors such as Most Valuable Player or All-League recognition multiple times, or distinguished themselves at the collegiate or professional level after her participation in sports at Mercy.

·  Team – Those nominated in the team category must have had their class graduate from Mercy a minimum of five years before becoming eligible for consideration; the team must have attained a championship at the league, section, or state levels.

COACH:

·  A nominee must have coached at Mercy a minimum of 10 seasons or five varsity seasons (less will be considered if accompanied by success at the collegiate or professional level); attained a minimum of one varsity championship; received extraordinary individual coaching honors.

CONTRIBUTOR:

·  The nominee must have been actively involved at Mercy for a minimum of four years and have contributed above and beyond their required duties in the field of athletics.

Exceptions to the above criteria can only be made by the nominating committee. However, ALL nominees must currently exemplify, and have exemplified, the highest standards in athletic skills, sportsmanship, ethical behavior, moral character, leadership, and above all exhibit the Commitment, Confidence, and Character worthy of a Mercy athlete.

General Notes:

·  All candidates will be judged on their influence and contribution to Mercy High School athletics.

·  A nominating committee will determine the selected inductees. A majority vote of the nominating committee will be required for induction.

·  The nominee will only be notified if they have been selected by the nominating committee.

·  No more than five inductees will be inducted to the Athletics Hall of Fame at any given time.

·  Inductions will occur every “odd” year, if a sufficient number of nominees are provided.
