WHAT, WHERE AND WHEN:

A K-8 Institute at Mount Saint Mary College inNewburgh, NY for the 8-days of August 5 through August 14, 2008.Two fall 2008follow-up sessions are part of the full program.An Additional follow-up institute in the summer of 2009 may be available if additional funding is obtained.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The institutes are designed for all K-8 teachers, including special education teachers, math coaches, mathematics specialists, resource people and curriculum specialists. No math prerequisites are necessary to participate.

ARE THERE ANY FEES?

There are no fees for New York licensed educators.

ARE STIPENDS AVAILABLE?

Each participant will receive a stipend of $50 a day ($500 total) for participating in the full program. All participants will receive useful classroom materials for their participation.

IS CREDIT OFFERED?

Participants who submit additional written work, incorporate additional activities into their classrooms will be eligible to earn graduate credits in education (3 graduate credits) from Mount Saint Mary College at a reduced cost.

WHO SPONSORS THE INSTITUTES?

The program is pending funding from Motorola under the Innovation Generation Grant program with additional support provided by Mount Saint Mary College in partnership with the NewburghEnlargedCitySchool District and the NewburghTeacherCenter. RutgersUniversity is providing additional support.

WHO DEVELOPED THE PROGRAM?

The program was developed by the Leadership Program in Discrete Mathematics, Rutgers University, New Jersey with support from the National Science Foundation, the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS) and Rutgers' Center for Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education (CMSCE).

WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION DEADLINES?

The deadline for partner school applications is Monday, June 16, 2008. After that date, all applicants will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis as long as space is available.
